Does anyone know which type of satnav+ is in a 2001 B5 RS4?
I presume its CDROM baesd not DVD?
At £100 + vat the CDs are extorion!
Can they be copied or downloaded from somewhere?
Is there a CD version for all of Europe or that only on DVD?
All comment welcome.
Satnav + in B5 RS4
Re: Satnav + in B5 RS4
It will, indeed, be a CD-based system. However, it may be either a type C or type D unit - they take different discs. The change between versions occured sometime around April/May 2001 production. Perhaps a look at this site will help you decide. If you have an old disc for your car, look to see whether the disc is marked with 'DX' - if so, it's the later 'D' Navi.norgrove wrote:Does anyone know which type of satnav+ is in a 2001 B5 RS4?

If you think about the amount of effort involved in maintaining the mapping data, and the relatively limited market these discs have, it's not difficult to see why the price is high! In any case, the standard DX discs are £92, including VAT.At £100 + vat the CDs are extorion!
Illegal copying doesn't help to bring the price down, and I am against doing it, but a good friend of mine might be prepared to help - search this forum for postings by N4ked.Can they be copied or downloaded from somewhere?
If you look at the Navshop site, you will see that there is a CD of the major routes of Europe, but I'm not sure whether it covers UK, and it certainly won't help you to find your way to local street level. In fact, looking at the site, it appears that the Major Routes disc is now only sold in a bundle with a country-specific disc.Is there a CD version for all of Europe or that only on DVD?

RE: Re: Satnav + in B5 RS4
All RS4's had dx units as far as I am aware.
firmware can be freely downloaded to get the latest version for the head unit (includes 50m resolution, a compass, and some other stuff too).
disks can be copied with the right software.
There is a single disk that does major routes only for europe. Otherwise you get seperate disks for france, germany, benelux, italy, spain, uk (including ireland).
Later disks have TMC enabled, and allow for post code entry for destinations.
The seperate disks can be a pain if planning routes across countries. for examnple, when we went to Germany last year you can't put in a german destination while using the french map. You have to drive to the border, then swap the disk to german one, then put in the dest. Fine if you know which general direction to head
I think it is a good system but thing the likes of tom-tom go are every bit as good now, and for a lot less money.
