Had to replace my tv tuner after theft. I Managed to get one second hand from Germany and although suposed to be in perfect working order i can't get the screen to even recognise the tv function is present. Am i right in thinking it will require dealer computer work to make it work even though it's a second hund tuner?

Is the Nav+ configured to know that the TV tuner is on the bus?
You can check this from one of the diagnostic screens on the Nav+ - holding the down arrow and AS buttons simultaneously should take you to a screen which displays communication status. If it says TV Tuner 'Not coded', then it's not set up to recognise the TV tuner. If it says 'No connection', then the TV tuner isn't connected properly, or isn't working.
If the TV tuner isn't configured, then you need a dealer computer or someone with a VAG-COM to set it up.
Whereabouts are you? Someone local to you may have VAG-COM and be prepared to change this for you.

Peter, thanks for your help. I don't have much experience with audi nav systems. My rs6 is 04 with the wide screen multi media interface. Can you help with check procedure for this unit?. I'm in southern Scotland and have to go to dealer in Edinburgh tomorrow(sat) to get new headlights coded in so i'll ask them, just wish i new what i was talking about!

Ah, you've got the newer, DVD-based, RNS-E system. Sorry, I'm not familiar with that one - all my instructions relate to the older CD-based system.
Except that I could look in the workshop manual to see whether there's any pointers in there.

I have the same system and will see if mine gives any clues related to peterb's answer above. My system didn't recognise the tuner at one point, probably due to poor signal strength. I have a place between Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright, and know the signal isn't brilliant there. Where was the theft from by the way? Hopefully not too close to there!

That part number is for the RNS 4 (i.e. Navi +). As yours is the RNS E, it may not be compatible.

I wrote "may" not be compatible. But if you want to reject it to the seller, you will need to be certain that it is indeed defective, and so you need to be 100% sure it is the correct part for your car.

Only clues mine gives are SW 080 and HW 046 (from memory) for what its worth, but it does work following the "not connected" glitch when reception was poor.

Blimey - this was a long time ago, but I've just 'rediscovered' this thread!
Having swapped my old CD-based Nav+ for the RNS-E system a little while ago, I can tell you that the part number you quote is the TV tuner for the old CD-based Nav. With the RNS-E (widescreen) unit, you need a different TV tuner (4D0 919 146C).
