Phatbox
Phatbox
Installed my Phatnoise Phatbox recently....
First impressions are that it's very nice....much easier to use than I thought it was going to be, the voices are pretty decent (although I need to slow it down a touch as it sounds like she's on speed at the moment).
Install was a piece of cake, I've cut out a small hole in the cover where the cartridge sticks out and it looks ok IMO...shame it has to stick out at all though.
Was ordered from the states to take advantage of the current exchange rate! - although obviously you still have to pay import tax..
More impressions when I've used it a bit more...

Re: Phatbox
In the RS6, I found that there was just enough space to move the PhatBox back in the cd changer mounting bracket, allowing me to close the side locker without cutting any holes.DaveP wrote:Install was a piece of cake, I've cut out a small hole in the cover where the cartridge sticks out and it looks ok IMO...shame it has to stick out at all though.
I'll bet you paid a lot less than I did in May 2003!Was ordered from the states to take advantage of the current exchange rate! - although obviously you still have to pay import tax...

How much does it cost to buy in this country, and indeed how much from the states at the moment as I'm thinking about swapping my cd changer out for the phatbox?
And is there definitely no way to fit it in the RS4 boot without cutting holes cause that will probably put a stop to proceedings?!

I think in this country, you pretty much have to buy it from the dealers...I think they're something silly like 699 quid (!) Mine was $349...plus shipping, plus import duty.
As for the fitting...I don't think it'll push back any further into the standard CD changer hole, mainly due to the connector on the back of the unit. Some people opt to fit them so they are visible on the side of the boot interior. The cutting I've done is just in the cover, so I can get hold of another cover if I take it out if I sell the car.

Import tax was 90 quid...tried to get the guys in the states to mark the value as less, but they wouldn't do it because of insurance purposes.
I've got it working with Symphony....but it does work with Navi+ - although the controls are obviously different - my mate has it fitted in his S8 with Navi+ - Craigyb on here - PM him if you need details but I've heard the voice announce working.
Will take a pic and post...
