Physically, it should fit fine, and work - but I suspect that the interface to the DIS display in the instrument panel may not be compatible and that GALA won't work.

To expand on Peter's comments, on this model the GALA signal was replaced with speed information over CAN. Since your car does not have this, the GALA function of changing volume with speed will not operate.

However note that the GALA and MUTE connections are BOSE and DWA-GND on the new unit. I don't know what these are so until you are sure, you shouldn't connect them, i.e. you'd need to change your wiring harness.

Regarding DIS, your car does not use CAN anyway so maybe you shouldn't connect it. Instead your car uses the old DATA/CLK serial bus. This IS present on this new head. Now maybe Audi have made it backwards compatible, but maybe not. Personally I wouldn't rely on it, certainly not for £199!

Without a modern CAN bus in your car the newer Audi radios will not "sense" the following signals:

- GALA (speed pulses)
- Switched live (Ignition on/off)
- Illumination (Lights on/off)

The lack of GALA is a slight nuisance (fixed volume level whether at rest or travelling at speed), no switched live means you have to manually turn the unit on/off when you enter/leave your car.

The worst problem is that the radio will have no mechanism to detect when your lights are turned on and as a consequence the integral bulbs/LEDs will not backlight the operating controls. Imagine driving down the road at night and having to turn the courtesy light on (with dangerous loss of night vision!) each time you need to vary the volume or change stations...

BUT the fiendishly clever Germans have been busy...

This new device from a German eBay vendor converts the important analogue signals described above, from your existing loom to CAN bus, for modern radios to interpret:

In the future this device will be updated to allow DVD RNS-E Navi units to be retro fitted to older (pre B6 etc.) Audi cars too!
