I am going to be fitting an aftermarket sat nav unit into my S4 '99 reg. Can anyone confirm whether there is already a speed pulse sensor fitted in the car. I will have to double check the instuction manual, but it should be a blue/white wire..........Any BTDT?

I fitted a Pioneeer DVD900 sat nav system to my 2001 S4 earlier this year and I used the GALA wire off the back of the concert radio/cassette player. The Audi manual says this is for speed sensitive volume control of the Concert unit but it never seemed particularly useful to me and worked just fine when connected to the speed pulse sensor input on the Pioneer Sat Nav unit.
I seem to remember it was a blue/white striped wire as you mention. I found the connections for my radio on this website.

I'm not much of an expert in this so can't guarantee it will work for your particular combination of radio/sat nav but at least I can tell you it works ok on mine.

Thanks John
My nav unit is also a Pioneer so hopefully should have no problems...

Speed pulse is a white/blue wire in a 99 A4.

Hmm - more than one blue/white wire on the back of the radio!!
What colour plug does the one I want go in to?
Also if you can say which is illumination it would be great - I am at the car now trying to get the install complete!

Not to worry - figured it out.
Brown plug. Speed pulse is the blue/white wire indicated on the diagram on the top of the Concert as "GA" (Gala).
Coincidentally, on the same plug there is another blue.white wire next to the ground that is illumination. Don't go trying to trace a fault with this if you have your dash illumination turned low as your sat nav may not think your lights are on!! Yes I did!
Thanks all
Now Road Angeled, hands freed and sat nav'd.
