"Connection to RDS-TMC is faulty" - help!

Out running some errands today, all is well until we return to the car which had been sitting in direct sunshine in 30C heat for about an hour. Switching the radio on, it connects to the station I was last listening to, then about 3 seconds later I get a beep and a grey warning box saying :

"Connection to RDS-TMC tuner is faulty or cannot be made"

This then locks me out of everything, i.e. I cannot change channel or switch to the navigation, TV or CD changer.

I have a Dec 00 RS4 and SatNav+ with TV. I htought maybe something had simply got too hot in the sunshine, but having parked in the shade for a while the same still happens. Can anyone help before I brave the dealer, or alternatively am I stuck with Virgin FM for the rest of my life

I had this recently, the dealer changed the head/TV unit but the problem remained, he then replaced the sat nav unit and a cable and the problem was sorted, I'm glad I had just extended the warranty otherwise there would have been a huge row about replacing the head unit for no reason.

Thanks for the reply Mog. Just one question, what is the difference between the head unit and the sat nav unit? I thought all the nav / TV etc. functionality was built into the head unit?

I'm hoping it's just a faulty cable. Fear the lack of warranty

There is a separate unit mounted in the left hand locker of the luggage compartment on my RS6 - it may be this to which Mog refers. However, it would seem more logical, to me, that it was the CAN gateway/TMC receiver which was replaced. This is a small box which is mounted close to the HU.

Thanks again. Got the tool kit out tonight, but before getting too involved in the boot, thought I'd give it one more go. Key in ignition ........... and everything has sprung back into life . Truly bizarre, and the only thing I can put it down to was the extreme heat somehow shorting or loosing a connection. I will keep an eye on it, but I'm at a loss for a rational explanation!
