No aerial signal to new Alpine H/Unit in RS4 (Symphony swap)

Post by romario » Wed Apr 07, 2004 4:38 pm

All,

hope you can halt the frustration of the install on my RS4.
Finally got round to adding some goodies to my 'Bose' equipped RS4.
Removed headunit/CD stacker and front door tweeters/mids.
Have fabricated new panel for din sized headunit, brackets for Diamond Mids in front doors and sound deadened until I ran out of Dynamat.
Put it all together, as Alpine headunit became available this morning (07/04/04) and all great expect the tuner won't tune in!
I must have missed a trick but am unsure where,
anyone know if the Audi bee-sting type aerial on the avants uses an amplified signal booster and if so where it is so I can give it a switchable current on signal.

Will bring my car to next Ascot meet, had hoped to be at the one on 31st March but PAS failed so car was with dealer most of last week. Keen to know if my Zymol skills are on par with finish of Bushy motor

Any help much appreciated,
James

It is very simple :jump_clap:
The original head unit supplies a voltage to the arial, which needs the power to work the built in amplifier........ you need a special wiring kit to fit to the original loom which will power up the arial and make it work properly, much the same for the entire VW/Audi range that has the 'bee-sting' arial on the roof, or infact the later ones with the arial in the screen :jump: :beerchug:

I have the same problem with my Alpine head/ mointor unit, that it now doesn't pick up the radio. However this was after I disconnected the cd changer & sat nav.

I'm sure I put everything back in place (& everything works apart from the radio). When my h/u was installed they had to use an aerial booster. I assume this would be nearer the head unit (which has not been disturbed) rather than at the rear of the car.

Haven't had the chance to get it looked at, but its annoying when you need a radio.

EDIT: Its now working; loose wire behind!
No sig, no RS4 anymore
