SatNav and TV options

Post by RobertH » Thu Oct 30, 2003 10:45 am

As I cannot find a definitive answer, what are the options if SatNav + is not fitted to an RS4.

I have looked at the site for installing SatNav etc using EBay parts, looked at PhilT's pictures and spoken to some dealers about 3rd part add ons but I am none the wiser.

What have people actually done and what am I going to be in for price wise?

Thanks

Robert.

Mine cost in the region of about £4000 (Would be a load cheaper now). Call Technicar on 0114 2556775, they will come to you if necessary.

If you want to upgrade to satnav+ I would suggest the best way would be to find an A4 in a scrappie with all the kit on it.
Buying the bits off ebay may be a bit hit and miss, as you need to be sure you get exactly the right parts.
Once you have the main components you then may need to alter wiring.

Or you could fit an after market setup, which would probably require fabricating a dash panel.

I don't know for sure as I've not tried to do this, but asked the same questions before I brought my car. In the end I chose to buy a car with satnav+, as it seemed a hell of a lot simpler !

Cheers,
John.

Sorry for the slight hi-jack guys, but I was thinking about retro fitting Satnav+ into my 98 S4, I know the bits can be sourced from ebay & breakers etc but the dash pannel is different - it the old syle with the single hight head unit. Is it possible\straight forward to fit the newer style with the cup holder etc at the top & the twin din head unit slot? Any ideas on the cost of all those trim bits?

Are you after the cup holder or the Sat Nav?

I was looking into fitting the whole shebang into a 98 S4, so the way I see it, it'll need:
The Navi unit & associated boxes of trix (arial etc)
The centre dash panel
the switch gear, cup holder, ash tray etc to fit the later trim panel.

Starting to sound like a LOT of work.

You can get an aftermarket kit fitted for around £2500, I guess £1k for hte head unit/front screen, the Alpine DVD sat nav covering europe is around £1600 and then get a new changer for £100, by the time Technicar or Berkshire car sounds do you a deal then that would be my guess

I have also fitted playstation, DVD movie player and rear screens

Good luck with your search
Can't beat a bit of boost!
