Portable DVD Players in cars

Hi all..I'm thinking of buying a portable dvd player for home and the two cars, but I'm wondering if the player could be connected to the sat-nav plus tv, the player would have a video and audio out with what looks like a jack plug connection. I assume that this would connect to the sat-nav unit in the boot. Some help with the cables needed if this is possible would be appreciated.
