B7 Ipod connector installed, but CD display

Post by Sprintbluecabrio » Thu Mar 21, 2019 1:22 pm

As per the title... Reporting here in the hope of a reply!

Scrolling through the stereo options, told me I had a 6 CD changer. Which there isn't, there is a proper Audi iPod connecter in the glovebox (B7 RS4)

I bought the bluetooth dongle recommended on here from Amazon to play music from my phone, but a) it doesn't light up when connected and b) I still have the 6 empty CD slots on the info screen - just gives slot 7 for the Nav disc

Has the iPod been retrofitted but software not changed over or... well, I can't think of anything else.

What are the options to get the iPod connector working from here?

Any chance you’ve got a copy of VCDS and the cable? There’ll be a communication error, at the very least if something’s not working correctly. It’ll also allow you to confirm the coding is correct.

I had to look up VCDS; the answer is no I don't have it. I do appreciate the reply though!

I did wonder if the dealer had just bought a cheap RNS-E unit on eBay and plonked it in. If that is the case, is it just a recoding issue? I'd much rather have the iPod connector installed so though it was a good thing! Is it the sort of thing any VAG specialist can do? I am 10mins from Fontain...

If you’re even slightly, technically inclined and plan to keep the car for any period of time, I can’t recommend getting a copy of VCDS and the cable, enough. It’s invaluable at diagnosing problems, without having to go to the dealer or an Indy

Anybody with the VAG software could tell you in 5 mins if you have an issue with your RNS-e. I’ve not come across the actual VAG iPod cable. From what I’ve seen, it was a pretty rare option. Most peeps got an aftermarket Aux-in cable and recoded the head unit.

If your head unit is coded correctly Block 37 (Navigation) should have the following last digit....either a 3, if you simply have an iPod adapter and a flat bottom steering wheel or a 7 if you have the multi function steering wheel and iPod connection.

0xxxxx?: Equipment II
+1 = Standard/Basic Value - Add to the Sum of Options below
+1 = TV-Tuner (PR-QV1/QV9) installed
+2 = CD-Changer or iPod/USB-Interface (PR-7A2/7A5/UF1/UF2) installed
+4 = Multi-Function-Steering Wheel (MFSW) installed

Thanks Kenny - maybe it is something I will look into but I don't even have time to clean the damned thing let alone diagnose the head unit :( I'll run it over to Fontain soon. I fancy a DRC fluid refresh anyway and may combine the two.

I suppose I was hoping it was something I could sort with a button pushing combo in the car settings. Unlikely but hope springs etc.
