Double Din
Double Din
Hi folks,
I’m looking to replace the rnse system in my B7 with either an Alpine ilx-700 or a Sony xav-ax100. I am curious as to what double din fascia looks the best and if I would need just the fascia or a whole fitting kit. I would also like to keep the Bose so need to know what harness I would need, I have found a couple but they all talk about bypassing the system.
Fitting kit - https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/connect ... aptor.html
Harness - https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/connect ... -lead.html

All four of the harnesses say they fit a B7 A4, I assume they are the same as the RS4 but I can’t work out which one I need to work alongside the Bose system.
Cheers

Re: Double Din
I have been doing a bit more reading and it seems I need this one to get the Bose system integrated

Can anyone confirm this or any of the above ones. I’m just a bit unsure and don’t want to order the wrong harness.

Re: Double Din
Have you looked at the Connects2 range:

Look at Audi A4 as the range for RS4 is a little limited.

Re: Double Din
The links that I posted are all connects2 products. I think the last link in my first post is right but then I read that the Bose amp needs to be turned on digitally and would need a canbus interface to work so the link I posted in my second post would be right if I need it, I’m just not sure if I do or wether the amp is hard wired and just needs a switched live. Not sure if I need an aerial adaptor either.

Re: Double Din
Sorry I was half asleep when I wrote that. I meant maybe the description was clearer on their website.
Re: Double Din
But, I don't think the Bose amp gets a signal from the head unit to turn on like a normal aftermarket installation would have. The head unit is turned on with the ignition (via can bus I think) as you'd expect, but the amp is turned on after you unlock the car them open the door and stays on until about half hour after you turn the ignition on or about 1 minute after locking the car. Or something along those lines.
Re: Double Din
So are you saying that the Bose amp can't be used with an after market head unit? If that’s the case then this one looks right

Re: Double Din
No I'm saying that the head unit doesn't turn the Bose on.
Re: Double Din
So the car turns the Bose on and will work with the headunit. Do you think the harness in my last post will be the right one then?

Re: Double Din
Not sure without looking at it properly (sorry busy at work at the moment).
But yes the car turns the amp on regardless of head unit. Essentially the amp is always on when the car is on and a little bit before and after that too. Need to be mindful with a load of aftermarket amps as they will drain the battery when the ignition is off but not alarmed. However they won't be doing much so current draw will be low.

Re: Double Din
That’s okay, your help is appreciated. I have emailed connects2 directly so hopefully they will be able to tell me. I’m thinking it should be the right one if the amp sorts itself out power wise, it won’t need a canbus harness to turn it on. I wasn’t planning on fitting an aftermarket amp, just the headunit.

Re: Double Din
In that case you just need to make sure there is a way to connect the RCA outputs from your new head unit into the existing loom to feed the Bose amp.
Re: Double Din
Excellent, thanks very much for your help Mike
Pretty sure this is the right one
Do you know if I will need an aerial adaptor or will it just plug straight in?

Re: Double Din
I'd be surprised if it plugs straight in. From memory the car has a non standard aerial connection.
Re: Double Din
Think it might be a fakra type but I might be thinking about the GPS antenna.
