Sat Nav problem

My Sat Nav has just stopped working. None of the buttons will make the display come on the DIS. Also the CD won't eject (but the red light is on). I've checked the fuse and that's OK.
Since I'm avoiding spending money right now, I'll only take it to the dealer as a last resort. So I'm going to take the unit out and check for loose connections etc.
Has anyone had a similar problem and know what the solution was?

Have you checked the fuse on the back of the sat nav unit in the boot ?

Thanks for advice. As it turns out I'm too busy to investigate right now so maybe it will fix itself. If it doesn't then the fuse on the back sounds like a good starting point.

Problem solved.
I took the unit out and checked the fuse. It was OK. So I put it back in whilst the ignition was on. The unit lit up as expected. However now when I tried to eject the CD, it did so. I put the CD back in and now my SatNav is working again.
Must have been developed by Microsoft...
Anyway, hopefully this will be helpful to anyone else whose SatNav just stops working!

I think your sat nav has passed a virus onto mine via this forum, as mine has started playing up now. Currently advising me that I am somewhere off the Welsh coast and outside the map data. Looked into the menu system and discovered that I am locked onto 0 (zip) satellites. Dealer was useless, told me what I already knew. Need to get to the bottom of this before my warranty runs out in June. Tried the fuse, ejecting the CD - no change. Somehow, I need to work out whether it is the GPS antenna or the sat nav box in the boot. Anyone got any ideas ?
TIA Nige.

Sorry about the virus
If you still have warranty, then why aren't you getting the dealer to fix it? I know that many dealers are w***ers, but only a complete moron would argue that your SatNav is OK. You paid good money for your warranty so it's pay-back time!

Unfortunately, mine is an after market warranty that doesn't cover any charges for analysis/investigation into the problem, only to have the part replaced (incl. labour though).

OK, so don't you just need the Audi dealer to say "yes it's kaputt and needs replacing" (£££ for him) and pass this message onto the warranty provider?

I know what you're saying Dave, but I would like to replace the right bit, not all of it. My thinking is that it's either the GPS antenna or the sat nav box in the boot and the difference between the two is probably ten-fold (£100 vs. £1000?). I have though about trying another sat nav box in my car, but the dealer didn't (admit to) have any cars with the DIS sat nav fitted.
My money is on the sat nav box, as the GPS antenna has very little to go wrong, but I guess I should check that the wiring is intact under the roof lining.
Incidentaly, where (car speakers?)does the sat nav sound come from in yours?

Nige,
When my car was brand new, my SatNav didn't work. I can't remember exactly what was wrong but I think it wasn't finding the satellites. It turned out to be a dry joint on the small board which sits on top of the SatNav box.
However as you say, unless you can swap out the modules, you're not going to be able to diagnose.
Maybe Toasty can help - He lives in Bristol IIRC.
It sounds like the SatNav girl comes from one (or all) of the door speakers to me, but to be honest I've not really thought about it. I'll check if it's important to you.

Anyone in the Bristol (ish) area got a DIS sat nav that could help isolate my problem to either the GPS antenna or sat nav box ?
