Thanks for that info. I have done the tvwiz upgrade on my september 2000 registerd RS4. I'll look tonight and see what version the unit now is as I'm sure it was the old one before because of the age of the car. The teleatlas site also indicates that a pre 11/00 car will have the 3.X system.

I, like you, am unclear whether this firware upgrade alters the 3.X to 4.X or if it just provides some new toys.

The plot thickens!

Right, I checked my system last night and under the "version info" bar I found not 3.X or 4.x but the following:

Hardwareversion Navigat

Softwareversion 0102

So we are no further forward. I'm going to try emailing the guy as tvwiz to see if he knows the answer to the 3.X/4.X stuff.

Have a look at the tvwiz site and it tells you how to view the version info.

fyi it is not only the software version, but whether you have a TMC module fitted. If it is fitted its version will also be displayed.
As far as I am aware all RS4s had the TMC fitted.

I upgraded mine (dec 2000 rs4) before christmas and it works with the 2003 DX disks with postcodes no problem.
I've yet to try it with a TMC enabled disk though.

If you want to, do a search for posts by me around october time last year, as I posted up my versions, button presses, etc.

Cheers,
John.

Well I've now heard from Dan at Tvwiz. He states that his upgrade does NOT change a 3.x system to 4.x and indeed this change can not be made. So as my hardware version is unknown the only way I can find out if the later maps work is to try one. Anyone got a "backup" copy I can store offsite?

I've upgraded mine recently (my unit was made in 2000) so this is useful info. My system supposedly has a TMC module as well.

I've also got the recent non-TMC disc and this works OK on my system.

What I'd like to do is try a TMC disc to see if this will work following the firmware upgrade above. Anyone near Surrey have a TMC disc available for 'Trial'??

By circulating copied discs you are reducing the incentive for future updates to be produced, and increasing the cost for those who choose to buy legitimate copies! :x

In effect, you are stealing from me and all other legitimate users - please don't do it!
