Thanks Craig. Looks good, but I think I'll wait until 2012 anyway ;)

Haven't changed my mind on the RNS-E at all ... in fact I'm chomping at the bit to get it done I'm just waiting for the adapters to land from Kufatec. I'm installing bluetooth phone module at the same time plus the multi-media player. I've been speaking to Kufatec and I think I'll be able to control the multi-media player via the RNS-E head unit using their basic plus multimedia adapter ... I've had an email to that effect from them. Should all be installed and working within in a couple of weekends time - weather permitting of course.

The whole TV tuner issue was the thing that has caused me most uncertainty. When I initially started thinking about the upgrade I wanted to have the TV functionality otherwise it seemed like I was making a backward step from the RNS-D functionality wise. However for reasons I stated in my early post I've moved away from the idea.

With regard to my earlier post it's actually my wife who tends to use the TV functionality more than me. She'd be happy sticking 15 mins of say blue planet or 1 of the crap american canned laughter sitcoms she watches rather than something on a terrestial channel. Plus on one of my trips down to London she rather likes the idea of putting a DVD on to keep her entertained whilst I get on with the job of driving. So for me personally I think we'd get more use out of the multi-media player rather than the TV tuner ... horses for courses I suppose.

Because I'm still not convinced by the DVB-T signal strength I've kept it on the back burner for now unless prices drop or signal strength increases in which case it should be a simple retrofit. The multi-media adapter has a single AV input so in the future I could unlplug the multi-media player, plug in a DVB-T which would then be controlled by the RNS-E head unit and then plug the multi-media player into the back of the DVB-T as a video input - the multi-media player would then have to be controlled via a remote control and remote IR sensor which the kit comes with. The only downside is I might have to get the adapter IMA recoded to operate the DVB-T rather than the multi-media player.

Will keep you posted.

Rich.

Rich ... How much is this multi-media adaptor and can't you get one with two av inputs ? Just thinking that you could then get one of the cheaper DVB-T tuners and attach that to the second AV2 input at a later stage without needing to de-attach the multi-media unit.

Are you doing the retro-fit yourself ?

I got the multi-media adapter from Kufatec with the other connectors I need. Cost is 209 euro ... won't know the exact £ cost until my credit card bill arrives but it's roughly £150. The multi-media player cost me approx £220 with a 500GB disk and car kit so £370 all in. I've not come across an adapter with 2 inputs on my trawl through the web ... may exist though - Craig might know.

The player is a Rapsody RSH-300 - I bought the player & hard disk separately as they're a doddle to fit as long as you can format the hard disk on a home or work computer although it can be bought as a packaged item from here.

I'm getting a friend of a friend to do the install for me - he's done a few RNS-E installs himself - I've seen one of his past installs in another RS6 and it was spot on. I was tempted to give it a go myself but from what I've read although it looks scary at first in reality it seems to be more plug & play than anything ... scarey bit for me though would be pulling the instrument cluster out and also trying to route the bluetooth microphone plus I don't have vagcom.

Take it from me, I am there at the moment and its not worth it. Digital does NOT work while on the move, its not so great in analogue either.

Park up and either goto the cimema or go home and watch TV in the comfort of your own home!!!!
