Do you use it mainly for playing music though? How often would you say you used it to watch dvd's? I've looked at the kenwood ones aswell, they do look good.
Hmmm, its fast but is it fast enough!!!

Does your dvd player play Mp3 discs and what would you say the sound quality is like? Now i cant make my mind up again...lol. You say the mrs watches films all the time. How often do you actually watch a movie in your car. Do you ever pull up anywhere to watch a film or do you just wait until your in a traffic jam etc...

Decisions decisions
Traffic only. I think you would have to be a little sad to sit in your car and watch films

gotta pioneer avh-p5700dvd, plays mp3s but only from cd so 700mbs only,

have played a dvd in it once! just to test,

mainly have it for tv, have a freeview and analogue box in the boot, as i find myself waiting about quite a bit, sitting in the car, with bugger all to do, so now i can watch some crap thats on!

Do you get good tv reception and how would you rate your player. I've heard the tv reception can be pretty crap depending on surroundings etc...

I have the pioneer avh-p5700dvd & the Alpine IVA-D100R on my short list, i just cannot make my mind up. I wasn't gonna go for the tv tuner but the Ipod connecter instead.

tv reception, i use and amplified antenna, pluged into another small amp, then into the dig box and then into the analogue one, normall get about 15/20 digital channels east london way, not been elsewhere and tried it. these arnt pioneer tuners just ebay specials btw

the pioneers good, gotta it for a bargin, bloke sold his car before fitting it, sold new but second hand, so went for it on them rteasons alone, tho im now thinking of getting and ipod and lead as the pioneers touch screen can control it all nicely

thats the pic of mine at the start of the thread. i took it from my old car and put it in to the s4. and before that i had a different one in the car previous to that. so i love tv/dvd units to say the least.

the reason for me having that one is more than to just watch dvd's, as someone said it would be sad to park up and watch a dvd when you got a surround sound setup with massive screen at home! that pioneer unit is a built in dvd/sat nav/cd/tv/mp3/traffic master/radio/aux input for my archos/etc etc you get the picture, and i have a 6 disc cd changer hooked up too. the tv aerials are hidden out the way and reception is good when stopped. if moving it does ghost but its only really used in traffic and as i live in london, thats quite often! :-/

i highly recommend that unit to anybody. if you are running seperate amps it has 6 pre-outs (3 pairs - front, rear and sub). I have it running the standard bose amps and speakers and a 12"sub in the boot with quick release fastners so i can remove in less than 2 mins to make use of the full boot. it sounds awesome, it really surprised me when i got it set up. i had spent loads on the previous car, all seperate genesis components, JL Audio amps etc etc and this isnt that far off and for the cost/performance in fact i'd say this is better... the Bose Concert system really was a nice surprise... :-D

Cheer's for your explanation Kyle, i think i'm going to go with an Alpine IVA-D310. Not 100% yet but nearly there  This is one of the hardest decisions i have had to make regarding doing an upgrade to my car, there's just too much choice/options.......

the newer DVD head units can play dvds with data mp3s on.
jvc call it GIGA mp3 something to do with 100hours playback, alpine call it mediaxpander i think.

i highly recommend pioneers - but thats all i have ever had since i started driving.

some of the alpines have a cool touchscreen feature that clicks the screen when you touch it - that sounds really crap LOL! check it out - go to a sextons or somewhere that has loads in stock, not ripspeed/halfords and then take a look at them.

its probably best to look in the back of one of the 'max power/revs/other similar chav mag' for prices tho. all the companies try to undercut each other and may be cheaper than off the net. have a hunt about for the best price when you know which unit you want. (most will require changers/tv tuners etc to be bought seperately, some even the sat nav is speperate which will be expensive).

just had a hunt on froogle for mine, you should be able to pick that up for £800 but its coming up at £1200 so take a good look for the best price.

you'll love it when you do get it in, and i'm sure you'll be happy with which ever unit you go for!

I have a pair of the rear side windows out of an RS4 that have the TV airels in if anyone is interested. They can be seen by the evenly spaced lines runing down the middle of the window. Make me an offer.
