What's that advertising slogan Audi use in the US? "Never follow".

Yeah. Never follow an Audi, it's on its way into a traffic jam!

What a Fcuking nightmare!!!!! I thought that Audi were leaders in technology - apparently this is not the case when BMW is miles ahead (no traffic jams!) in the case of Sat Nav TMC.

TMC - whoops!

Post by ChrisB » Wed Jun 18, 2003 8:40 pm

Firstly let me say that I think that TMC may just work if Tele Atlas get a TMC coded disc out. It's annoying that Audi UK just don't seem to have a clue about it and I've had to dig around for information myself. "Vorsprung Durch Technik"? More like "Rückwärts durch Unwissenheit"...

Now on to the really embarassing bit. Like a complete feckwit, I was digging for more clues by having a little tinker with some Nav+ hidden menus with regard to RDS/TMC tuning, trying to figure out if I was receiving TMC transmissions or not. I figured out that I was (on Classic FM), and then I fumbled a button press and I think I accidentally turned the TMC interface off from Nav+

Now, I keep getting a message to the effect that the head unit can't see the TMC tuner and my nav display no longer appears in the DIS display. Oops.

Time for some BS to the dealer - "I don't know what's happened, it just started doing it". I'm hoping that a bit of nifty recoding with a VAG 1551 will sort it out.

It was done in the name of honest research, but all the same, what a prick.

When I spoke to them last, the 2003 DX was the latest CD and it was not TMC coded. Do you recall what disc should have the magic TMC coding on? The 2004 GB DX CD by any chance?

I'm in the dealers on Monday to have cracked brake discs ( ) looked at, so I'll show them the mysteriously faulty Nav+ unit then...

That sounds like an excellent way of persuading Tele Atlas not to produce any further updates!

The TeleAtlas website is now showing the 2003-4 GB DX disc as being available. No mention of TMC data, though!

I note that the disc for Germany does mention TMC data.

I have just had an email from TeleAtlas, stating that the TMC enabled CD was to have been launched this month. However, 'development problems and internal issues with Blaupunkt' means that it is looking more likely to be launched in the autumn.

I've just spoken to Tele Atlas and they say that the new disk branded Great Britain and Belfast 2003/2004 DX R3 will NOT include the TMC coding. They said that the software is being worked on but they have no release date yet as they are waiting on a company called ITIS who run the RDS-TMC system in the uk to decide on licensing issues ITIS Homepage . Quoting from this web page (about 2/3 down) "The RDS-TMC system is now available on Toyota, BMW 7 series, VDO Siemens and Alpine equipment and is on trial with a number of other manufacturers."
This explains all the posts on this thread about how BMWs seem to work!

No date or information for Audi though
