Does anyone have any idea if it's possible to (or have any experience of) upgrading the standard RS4 Bose amp/speaker setup? Or am I being too fussy in saying that to me it doesn't sound nearly as good as other Audi bose in-car set ups - such as the one in my old A3 - which sounded brilliant?
Cheers

Re: Upgrading ICE
It is possible to tweak the settings of the Audi setup and combine them with a sound pressure meter. There was a post on the old RS4.org site which I am sure PhilT can find for you

Re: Upgrading ICE
Here's how to change the settings on the Symphony headunit.
(taken from audiworld, full article here Audi World )
Symphony EQ Settings
The Symphony radio has hidden equalizer settings that the user can adjust to improve the sound.
The first number in each group of four digits (which control front and back speaker pairs) is lower bass, the second is upper bass, and so on.
How to Access Symphony EQ Settings
You access the setting by turning off the car, removing the key, then turning on the radio by pressing the volume knob while simultaneously holding down the 5 preset button.
The readout says 55555555 initially. Each digit is a band for either front OR rear speakers.
"ABCD EFGH"
A= low bass front
B= upper bass front
C= lower treble front
D= upper treble front
E= low bass back
F= upper bass back
G= lower treble back
H= upper treble back
The first digit will be blinking. You adjust the blinking digit's setting using the volume knob. To advance to the next digit, press the P scan button. When you're done, turn the radio off then on again to test your settings. Note that this won't work if the car is running... take the key out before changing these settings.
Hope this helps

Gotta be done mate
I installed a genisis amp behind the panel to the rear of the rear tyre well, rewired the speakers but retained the subwoofer
All left in tact in case i need to re-instate to orignal
Well worth it
PhilT has an awesome bass system in his, having filled the spare wheel well with 3 woofers
Awesome a man after my own heart
Can't beat a bit of boost!
Re: Upgrading ICE
Thanks Bushy,
Will it work ok with the standard header unit? Mine is of the skinflint 'no-sat-nav' variety...
One problem - I appear to have a full-size spare wheel in that particular 'hole'. Guess it'll just have to come out (just don't tell 'er indoors and hope she doesn't get a puncture!)
Cheers
