RNS-E with no Radio reception or navigation

Post by Spitelli » Wed Oct 19, 2011 10:55 am

Hi Guys,

I have an RNS-E fitted to my 2003 RS6 (purchased the car last week from a member on here).

My FM Radio, and any other band for that matter, will not find any stations and remains greyed out.

The navigation is also not functioning and due to the double glazing my back up Garmin also doesn't get any signal inside the cabin.

Anyone else had this or does anyone have any ideas? I thought perhaps ariel or something...

This is my first Audi so as a newbie please be gentle :D

Steve

Hi Steve, and welcome.
"PetrolDave" is probably your man for all things radio/satnav (RNSE).

However, it does seem to point to an antenna problem. If the guy you bought it from is on here.... have you asked him about any previous issues?

Hi Timster,

The guy I've bought it from has been helpful but hasn't gotten back to me about this and to be fair he doesn't need me chassing him up all the time. Afterall it is a private second hand buy.

Whatever has happened it is recent as the radio worked on his driveway when I viewed the car (I neglected to test the nav) but when I collected it a few weeks later all it does is fuzz.

Bluetooth and mobile all work fine as does the CD Changer and playing MP3s via CD or with my I-Pod.

Camberly Audi want a full hours labour to diognose the fault and I nearly fell over at their rate, so really hoping to get some input from fellow members that I can follow up on.

Thanks for the welcome :)

As it's a 2003 car I guess the RNS-E was a retrofit? So check that the correct antenna adapter has been used, and that the GPS input is actually connected, and if the car had an RNS-D beforehand that the TMC tuner has been properly bypassed.

If they're all good then it sounds like it could be the antenna amplifier and/or the sharkfin antenna that's faulty.

Thank you PetrolDave, you clearly are a man in the know.

I don't have any keys to pull the unit out with to check behind it. Does anyone in the Hampshire/Surrey area have a set I could borrow or could offer a helping hand?

I don't mind doing a drive to anyone that can assist.

Cheers all.

Count me out, I'm out of action due to hand surgery.
