Parking sensors
Parking sensors
As I arrived home last night, around 23.30, the parking sensor system went into fault mode (single long beep, and flashing light on the parking system button). I tried turning the system on and off, the ignition on and off, but the fault wouldn't go away. This morning I went out to the car (parked in the garage) and turned the parking system on - it's working perfectly! I connected up the VAGCOM and the system reports an intermittent short on the right rear sensor. The question which occurs to me is - can the system be affected by the freezing conditions, or is there a genuine intermittent fault? If it had not been working this morning, I would have booked in to the dealer to get it sorted, but with function restored, it seems sensible to leave it for a scheduled visit (in May?).

Re: Parking sensors
It's unlikely that an actual sensor would be affected by the cold, it just hasn't got cold enough here yet I don't think. It could be related to the weather though - perhaps a faulty cable connection is expanding/contracting and shorting out or something.
I wouldn't like to live without it right now - all the mud and salt spray reduces visibility enough to need reverse parking assist.

Re: Parking sensors
Yep, that's what I thought - after all, some of the americans and mainland europeans must suffer colder climes than ours. Ah well, I'll see how it goes - just hope it keeps going over the christmas break, when getting a repair may be difficult.
Hmm, I wonder how difficult it is to swap sensors around - could see if fault moves the device, or stays with the particular location. Shall have to have a quick look at my Bentley's CD.

Re: Parking sensors
The electrics on my car have been crying wolf over the recent cold snap. The coolant sensor moans on the DIS when cold and one of the indicators stopped working for 10 minutes or so. Also the alarm moaned the other day, presumably a switch or ultrasonics.
All fine when warmed up a bit.
