Hands free
Hands free
With the impending law change which will ban talking on the mobile while driving, I need to fit a hands free kit to my RS4.Has anyone recently fitted one? Any recomendations? A friend suggested bluetooth if I didn't want to do something permanent and of course I can use it in other cars.
What do you all think?

Hi Sam,
The Bluetooth set up is fine, but it does not charge your phone whilst on the move.
Nokia and most other kit manufactures, have a system that will send the sound through the stereo speaker system, but the connection kit costs about £100 plus the in car kit.
What phone do you have at the moment.

Re: Hands free
Fit like one of the problems with car kits even the most expensive is the although you can hear the caller fine the caller can have so difuclty in hearing you. i know a few who have had very expensive kits including Mercedes factory fitted kit that works through you stereo and any time that iv've phoned them up on it it' quite hard to make out what there saying probably because ther too far away from the mic, wear as the bluetooth is as clear as a bell they can hear you and you can hear them perfectly but as been mentioned it dosent charge your pone and you have to charge the ear peace as well.I still use the cabled earpeace but will probably change to the bluetooth better option imo just have to remeber to charge them up.

Re: Hands free
I recently fitted a kit in my RS6. I used the standard traditional kit for my Motorola phone. It charges the phone, it connects to a remote aerial and feeds the audio out through the speakers on my Nav+ Bose system. I'm very pleased with it. I haven't had any complaints from the people on the other end of the calls.

Re: Hands free
I've got the traditional Nokia CARK-91 kit (cradle & hidden control unit), and it's plumbed through the stereo. The trick with hard-wired kits is to make sure the microphone is placed somehwere effective. Mine lives just near the driver's side map-reading light, and seems to work fine.
Re: Hands free
Hi Sam,
I had the 'parrot' bluetooth kit fitted in mine yesterday.
Seems good so far, takes a bit of setting up but then seems to work great.
£112 from expansys and then about £100 to get it fited.

Re: Hands free
Hola..
I've got the Nokia Bluetooth car kit fitted to the s4 - the mic is on the A post next to the driver & the sound is linked to the stereo (so it mutes etc when a call is made\comes through). I'm running a Nokia 6310i which frankly runs for 3 weeks with bluetooth turned on all the time before it needs charging. Voice recognition for dialing is excelent, no problems yet & clarity of both the incomming call & you going out is great - you can rarely tell its not a land line or normal call. I'd highly recommend it.
Cheers,
A

Re: Hands free
I use a bluetooth headset and a car charger for the phone, with current bluetooth technology battery life for the headset hasn't been a problem and the system is fully portable. the only problem I have is with the headset catching on the seatbelt when i turn my head so I had to swap ear. System is fully portable and futureproof. I personally prefer this system as I travel a bit , but it depends on how much time you spend in your car on the phone

I reckon thats the way I'll go, as I have several cars and I don't want to put a hands free kit in all of them, plus I travel a lot abroad and don't have too many long car trips in the UK. I'm off to the shops.......
Thanks everyone!

Re: Hands free
Blue tooth is the way to go, you don't have to change your car kit every time you buy a new phone.
Re: Hands free
Parrot also do a cigar lighter bluetooth adapter which looks quite good if you want something portable.

Re: Hands free
I have the sony bluetooth handsfree kit in my s4. Its very good.
The mic was where the light switch panel is, just left of the drivers head. It seems like a pretty good spot as no one has complained about the quality, in fact they didnt even know i was on handsfree.
The best thing is as long as bluetooth is enabled on your phone you dont even have to take it out your pocket to hook it up.
