Well in that case you DIS channel 62 will already have a value of 4 and have a pair of can wires running to the NAV system I think. Check at the back of the nav for 2 wires, orange/lilac orange/brown. You should increase the value of the channel 62 to 5.

On the cluster T32b = grey connector - Pin 5 can L or/li , Pin 6 can H or/br

On the radio you need to connect 7 & 12 to these pins, cant remember which way around they are, but they will be shown on the lid of the concert II. Also disconnect the existing clk/data/enable connections.

Hope that helps

Hi guys,

I've been reading this with interest... I have a pre-facelift car, reg'd Jan 99, so having looked at this am i right in thinking it's a fairly safe bet that i don't have the CAN BUS in my dash? So, that said, is the process of making a Concert II work in my car similar / the same as described here or is it likely to be even more complex?

Also, Philws4, did u need stereo removal keys to pull your concert 1 head unit out like that in the pics? i had a brief look the other day but could see an obvious way to pull it out!

Cheers in advance guys,

Jim.

Hi Jim,

Wouldn't like to say wheather you have CAN BUS or not, have you done the 'searches' described above?

Looks like i can do this quite easily as i have CAN BUS to the dash because i have sat nav, so have sourced the parts and will tackle at the weekend.
Yes you will need removal keys to pull the existing concert head.If you look near the bottom of the HU you will see a couple of small horizontal slots, the keys just push in there and with a bit of jiggery pokery it will release the catch and you can pull the unit out.
These will do the job (or anything the same shape/size)

Hi Phil,

Cheers for that, i may well invest in a pai of those so i can have a good poke about!

Not done the checks described yet, will try and make some time to do them at the weekend hopefully. When you say Concert II, i take it u just mean the cd version of the concert, as found in may A3's and 4's etc... like this one:

or is concert II something different? ( apologies if this is a really daft question! :) )

Ta muchly,

Jim.

Hi Jim,

Yes that's style unit i intend to fit.

Be nice to not only have a C/D in the front but also gain from having better control over the tone range, as you can adjust the Bass, Middle and Treble.
Also who listens to casettes anymore?? Plus the unit is better to operate by 'feel' as we were not blessed with steering wheel controls.

A-men Phil... funnily enough, me and the GF dug out a whol bunch of cassettes the other day as her motor went in for a warranty repair and the runabout they gave her only had a tape unit... highly amuzing it was too!! especially as the aging tape drive motor started to start choosing its own speed... slowing down to barry white style or speeding up to chipmunk style ... at will !! :D

I ordered a set of those stereo keys, so when they arrive i'll pull my concert unit out and have a gander at the back of the thing and see what's going on back there.

Hi I would like to do this upgrade in my 2001.5 B5 S4 Avant. I currently have the concert 1/bose + phatbox and want to upgrade to concert 2.

I have some questions:

1/ There appears to be different Concert 2 models for A3/A4/A6/TT - do they all fit in the B5 S4 or do I need a specific one ? I have seen it mentioned that the A6/TT one is the only one that fits in the B5 S4 but they all look pretty similar size to me.

2/ If the clock/data/enable cables are just disconnected and not reconnected to the canbus as mentioned here, what doesn't work ? If its only the DIS display then I don't mind but I wondered if other stuff woudn't work either.

Thanks

John

If you don't have a working can bus connection then the following will not work.

1. Power on/off with ignition
2. Illumination of radio
3. Info in the cluster
4. Speed dependant volume (possibly)
5. Radio will shutdown every 30 minutes or so.

Thanks, so it sounds like it is necessary to make the can bus changes, I'll look in to this from the information in other posts on here.

Do you know about the different models - is it possible to use any of the concert 2s from A3/A4/A6/TT ?

I would keep away from an A3 one as that uses a can gateway in the car and the canbus messages are not the same.

A6 is probably the best, although an A4 should also be fine.

Am i right in thinking that my Sat Nav ( CD system fitted in the boot ) will not work with the Concert 2 as per this article on the symphony 2?? because if thats the case even though its an old system if i cant get it to work then i will go back to the OEM Concert 1 unit

Why wont it? I thought these Nav units in the boot used can bus, so is there any reason why it wont interface with the concert II has the same connections on the 10 pin connector.

In that case i guess i need to swap some wires over on the red 10 pin connector as the pin outs are different on the Concert 2 but which ones do i swap and to where?

The radio model No is 4BO 035 186 Q if that helps.

It would be great to get this sorted as everything else works ok with the set up inc illumination, DIS,power up with ignition etc.

The only other slight issue i have is that the unit swithes off randomly for a second or so and have heard that it could be something to do with the 'keep alive signals', does this make any sense, or is it just trying unsuccesfully to communicate with the Sat Nav?

Its a shame your up North Craig otherwise i would be round like a shot to let you have a look at this
