Morpheous RoadPilot...

Post by Alan » Thu Feb 20, 2003 4:51 pm

Ok guys something constructive from me for once Image
Since getting the porker I've been desperately looking for the "perfect" GPS/Radar?Laser detection/protection setup.

I've owned and used over the last few years a Geodesy, Geodesy+ (same thing just a software upgrade), Road Angel and lately a Snooper S6-R Neo.

The Snooper promises the full solution and in use is very good indeed, however, when you come to try to fit it into your car it's just plain fugly and big and clumsy, same as the Road Angel (which IMHO is the best of the GPS units if you're going to be chopping it from car to car like we do here at work).

So I've been reading about the RoadPilot from Geodesy for months now and finally got a demo of one last week.

All I can say is that in action, it's fantastic.
It does everything you could possibly want (short of launching a sidewinder at the cameras etc it detects Image) and on top of this, if you want a solution to hardwire into your car it looks great and is a piece of p1ss to do.

I've bought the option with the Radar Head, that will detect handheld radar guns at long range and give you the added bonus of knowing what radar Gatso's are actually switched on (not that I'd recommend relying on this feature and speeding past ones that don't appear to be Image).
It doesn't have laser "detection, but then again IMHO that's useless anyway as by the time you detect a laser gun being fired at you you're nicked.
Instead I've fitted the Snooper SLD920 Laser Diffusers.
These you can see in the pic below, in the intercooler intakes, but this pic was from about a meter away, from a couple of metres you can hardly see them at all Image

All in all it's very neat and tidy and all I've got to do now is concentrate on driving safely and not forever worrying about what's 'round the corner Image

The whole lot incl. fitting cost me a tad over £1k but believe me I'm a very happy bunny now it's all fitted Image

Here's the pics:

looks nice Alan.

Im a Geo + owner and considered the road pilot... but just couldnt see me using it, or the hassel of removing the screen when leaving the car, to prevent theft (or looking at the sucker stuck to the dash/windscreen)

yours looks ok. but i fear it would look clumsy, out of place and probably be never used in my case!

My Geo lives in a cubby hole out of sight from prying eyes. It only gets touched for updating!

odd question maybe! but whats it look like from outside- in, ie through the windscreen... ie the sucker, cables back of lcd etc..

I've been thinking of getting a GEO or PILOT. But questioned there intelligence in not going off just coz they are in the radii of a camera. i.e. I would want to know on an approach to one???

Could you shed any light on this??

Cheers

Does anyone know if it would be possible to transfer the display on the roadpilot screen to the screen on the Audi Sat Nav plus screen?

I would guestimate that it is nigh on impossible .
