I was on the A1 in Newcastle the other day and saw a red audi saloon (very old shape) with an S2 badge on the back.

forgive me if I am wrong, but i thought the S2 only came out in Coupe format ??

Cheers

In reply to Guy, I also cannot recall the S2 being anything but an Avant (actually Audi Estates have not always been called Avants in the UK - I think Audi called it an Estate then didnt they?) and a Coupe, dont recall a saloon..probs an Audi 80 with badges?

The S2 came in Coupe and Avant. Are you sure it wasn't an old S4 like this?

Correct - Had the same engine as the S2 - 5pot 20v Turbo.

They also did an S2 saloon, as well as coupe and avant.

Just not in this country.

Really? An Audi 80 saloon S2? Are you sure?

I know!
I was surprised too.

Was reading an article in Audi Driver on the weekend (this months with the 500+ BHP RS6 on the cover) and they had a section on the S2 avant, usual stuff, about what to look out for, cost of certain parts (turbo £2000, ouch!!) (cylinder head £2.5k ouch ouch!!) etc...

A the end they mentioned the S2 saloon, must admit I'd never heard of it either.

Suppose they could be wrong, I'll re-read it tonight to be sure.

There was definately an Audi-80-based S2 saloon (not to be confused with the slightly larger 100-based S4. There are a few pics under the S2 gallery on www.s-cars.org if I remember right. Also as rare as the preverbial rocking horse plop plop with, I think, only around 400 saloons made worldwide. The coupe was made in the largest numbers of all of the s2's. This is probably becasue it was produced for a few years before the avant was released in 1993.

There is a biography somewhere on the S2's but can't remember where I read it. I will have a trawl on the www.

I have to be honest, I have never met anyone who has or has had an Audi S2. There must be plenty out there though?

There are quite a few yahoo groups out there that I am not a member of, such as urS4/S6 and RS-2list, so it might be worth becoming a member to entice users to join us.

I guess that there must be a few owners on the quattro forums because of the commonaility with the 5 pot engine. I am not a member, anyone else??
