faulty fuel gauge

can anyone help me i have a s2 avant m reg it has a new fuel sender unit fitted but the fuel gauge seems dead & i have tried to recalibrate it from details on s2central but no joy? 
try on the s2forum.com someone is bound to have had a similar problem at somepoint. It could be a bad connection to the sender or a bad connection on the back of the dash unit.
