My ABY engined urq ate its no5 coil today,it went onto 4 then cut out and would not restart, any ideas why this has happend? The coil is very melted where the wires go in.It must have shorted some how.Could it have knackerd anything else?I am a bit worried, surely it should run on four?
Please help need to get back to leaving S3's S4's tt's for dead!

it will run very rough on 4 rather than 5 cylinders. as for the cause im not sure may be because of an ignition amp or a different underlying problem. get a quote from audi and vagparts for a new one if i were you.

You also do not really want to run on 4 cylinders as the heat difference between cylinders can cause further problems. Can you take pictures of the coild pack - i've not seen a melted one!

I will take a photo tomorrow, the next great news is the short in the coil has been sent to the ecu! This is why it won't run on four...There are no signals comming from the ecu to the coils. I am now looking for a second hand ecu! I have tried a few repairers today but as usual i'll ring you back and thats the last you hear! I am so pissed off!! It will be on the news soon a big rise in beer sales in the Leeds area!!
If Im drunk I carn't drive so I don't miss the quatty!!!
Thanks for the replies,
Rob

it may be easily fixed in the ECU if it has only blown the power stage for the coils.

If you are after an ECU then Mihnea (S2_Tuner on here) has one IIRC - you might get hold of him easier on
www.s2forum.com
Mihnea and Paul Nugent (S2Central on the S2 forum) have fixed a few of these ECUs before.
There might not be any signals coming from the ECU because of other fault codes - check this out first.

I've fixed it!!!!!! I had a word with a mate of mine, he also resides on here and he spoke to a friend of his. This what he said: if a coil goes down it blows one of the motor fues (these are in the fuse box sort of stuffed in at the side,"motor" on top). Sure enough one was blown!! found new coil at euro spares. £69.00 and it came with plug connector! coil in and new fuse I am now smiling again with fit and helthey car again!!
Thanks for the replys, remember the fuse if you have the same happen!

Good to hear that - What is Euro Spares - i have never heard of them and £69 for a coilpack sounds like a good price.
