Potential alternator fault

Evening all,

Had a multitude of warnings on the dash this evening , ‘sport diff warning’ ‘battery system malfunction’ ‘start system fault’. All these were amber faults on the dash. Phoned the local dealer who said bring it in and leave it with us.
On the way there the battery system fault went from amber to red. 5 minutes later stuck in the middle of the road at rush hour, total nightmare. AA turned up recharged the battery enough for me to drive to my local Audi dealer (Poole Audi) (who weren’t impressed at me turning up at 6:03 pm, when ‘they had just turned the computers off).

Anyway, was just interested to know if anyone else has had similar issues? I’m 4 months out of warranty now and the AA chap said this is apparently a common problem with the C8 RS6 and a new alternator is probably needed.

Sorry for the long post, but would appreciate any comments/advice.

Cheers

Not something I have heard before.

Good luck and keep us updated.

I had the exact same scenario with my C8 when the car was 22 months old and had covered 20,000 miles. It was a known issue and was changed under warranty. I suggest that you politely request for it to be replaced under warranty as well.

Oh - ignore me then.

@mgoliveruk did the alternator fail?

Very common failure on the C8 platform, thought they would have sorted this issue by now, however yours must be the earlier version hence inevitable failure

So, heard back from the garage yesterday. New alternator needed and covered under warranty as Audi uk have put an extended warranty on the alternator as apparently this is a very common problem. Lucky, as would have been circa £2200 otherwise!!
Just waiting to hear how long the parts will take to come from Germany….

Hope you got sorted - took almost 6 weeks to get mine sorted and led to me rejecting the car. Only to buy another one 😳

Appreciate it’s an older post, but I had same issue after about 24,000 miles. Fixed under warranty but took circa 3 weeks due to waiting for parts.

2021 MY, 19,000 miles left me coasting on the M6 last week. Fingers crossed a new alternator arrives today (1 week since Audi ordered it) and I get my car back next week at some point.

Hi Everyone

I have this problem on my 2023 RS6 Vorsprung, i have had the car remaped and its only done 1600 miles and this problem has occurred this week, the audi dealership has
said its not covered under Warranty because of the remap, has any one else had there warranty refused or voided because of a remap?

the cost is £3k to fix this, its so annoying as there is loads of forums on here regarding this problem what should be classed as a recal

Please help any advice would be great

J

It’s entirely to be expected that the warranty would be voided with a remap. This is a well trodden topic on here and elsewhere.

Your car will now be tagged at Audi, no warranty claims to be had.

This happened to me last night after picking up a used vehicle with circa 19k on.

They’ve been really good about it and put me in a brand new RSQ8 for my troubles. How long did it take for parts?

Happened to me again with 39000 miles a few weeks ago. New alternator took two weeks. Second time it happened, every 19000ish miles

2020 car for me. New alternator last year luckily in warranty. Had the full array of error messages yesterday and car stranded on the road. Not a great advert for Audi! AA man said (as others have posted) that this is a common fault.

And here we go, same issue on my 2021 one now, will drop it into the dealer later. Coming hot on the heels of the thermostat failing leaving me stranded at the Dutch border without mobility. And people say McLarens are unreliable...
