Am I mad or is this my mid life crisis

Post by drbru » Tue Apr 28, 2020 4:04 pm

So I was planning on waiting another year or so for the prices of the C8s to drop to around 80k for a second hand model and then buy my dream RS6 which ive been itching for, for ages now

I then had a separate thought that I wanted to run past you all.

Forget the RS6........

But a second hand Lotus exige 380 or 410 for simply as a toy and then use the change to buy something sensible like a golf r estate as the practical family car

what do you think???

Well it’s 2 different cars, rs6 family car together gives you sport and brutality, lotus is only a third car in a family in my opinion, I am talking about practicality that rs6 can offer you. If you have rs6 then you can look for 2 door car like r8 or Mercedes amg gtr, but if you have only one car in a family for example like Toyota Prius I would go for Rs6 . In my mind in a family should be good strong family car and then another car for weekends or race track days)

You know my views on this.

£80k car will be a £40k tops car in a couple of year.

The excitement of nailing it in a straight line will become boring quickly.

So whilst a golf may also seem boring it will be cheaper boring

You smile everytime you get an exige. I’d go for a 410 if poss

I know it's a bit boring but surely you have to factor in depreciation. The RS6 will plummet whereas an Exige will hold fairly well and will give such a thrill.

Personally i'd go down the 2 car route but everyone is different.

I went 2 cars down to 1 car
X5 and R8 V10 to RS6 as I work away

Haven't missed the R8 ever. The 6 is as much fun and no one buys these cars with their heads; everything depreciates. If we bought with our heads, we would all be driving a Mini...
Unless you are planning track days, then take the 6, as driving the 6 at more than 60% of its capability = driving ban or dead - plus 1 set of road tax, insurance etc etc

Biased audience here lol

I have two car mad sons so my 2 door 2 seated days sadly came to end as the arguments over what roads we went on, how fast we went and how long we spent out became too much.

If you will have the time to use it, then an Exige is an awesome bit of fun and relatively cheap. But it’s not an easy jump in and go car.

As stated above you will no doubt get bored with a Golf

Therefore if you can afford it and you are happy the RS 6 is a great tool for any job.

its def a tough one....realistically, i don't think ill ever have the funds to buy a real supercar/hypercar however i see the exige as the closest i can get

As far as a golf r being boring - yes it will be but im ok with that as it will simply be a practical family car

I do love the new RS6 though!

If you buy the exige you will be out in the Golf and see an RS^ and say to yourself, I could have been driving that now.

Unless you plan on doing lots of tracks days I'd go with the RS6. Yes it will depreciate but it looks good and is (probably) a lot of fun. And sounds great will an aftermarket exhaust.

I know 535dboy said going fast in a straight line loses it's excitement quickly but I never got bored of it in the 3 years I had my C7. And I smiled every time I got in it and looked back at it every time I walked away.

We will always have a different opinion which is all cool

I suppose with the exige it will be faster in a straight line and will actually go around a corner too ! 😂
