Do I go for a C8

Post by 10biscuits » Tue Mar 17, 2020 9:23 pm

Welcome your comments, I have a C7 Performance, but time is coming to change. I have not test driven a C8,but have looked at one at the local dealer. There seems to be a lot of different opinions on the C8. Here are mine without of course driving it.
Not that important but the C7 is without doubt a cool car,it's understated, the attention it still gets always surprises me.In my opinion the C8
is overstated, there just seems to much to it externally and therefore is it cool ? The M5 Comp suddenly becomes attractive.
I did not like the look of the C8 dash,it just doesn't seem thought through and dare I say it,looked cheap !! not the least according to reviews
you have to clean the touch screen every day.
Now for me the most important thing, the C7 is a drivers car, mine has a sports exhaust, the sound is fantastic, the reviews I have seen and read
all say the sound of the C8 is just not there, although in general they all say it's a good car.
It's an important decision for me ,the C7 was around for 5/6 years,so I have doubts there will be a C9 given what the Government is trying to
achieve,so is this the last Audi RS6 ?
So,has anyone on here moved from a C7 Performance to a C8 ? If so your thoughts would be great.
It might be after some 15 years driving RSs,the time has come to move on, the M5 Comp is some fantastic car,but won't go away without a
fight !!!
Thanks all

Right now, Polo bluemotion feels excessive. Whilst we’re holed up better to wait?

Not sure I’d be spunking over £100k on a fast depreciating asset right now.

RS6Chris went from an RS6 C7, to C7PE to V10 R8 to C8 and loves it.

Not sure I'd describe the C7 as a drivers car though. I loved the thing but it was too heavy and wallowy to be a drivers car. B7 yes, C7 no. I hear it is much more raw than the C8. And from the videos I've heard, the C8 sounds better than the C7 did stock.

Reviews say the C8 is noticeably quieter. I would keep the C7 and get yourself a proper 'drivers car' at the other end of the scale.... a Caterham R400, but then I am a bit biased ;) :P

My tuppence worth:

I have had two RS4s from new (B7 and B8) as I have two kids and live in Central London - always want the alround package of space / practicality for a family with the ability to give it a rip when the opportunity arises. With the kids getting bigger and the RS4 moving to a V6, I was looking at the alternatives that tick all my boxes.

Merc looked dated to me, the M5Comp is a saloon and the Panamera is more expensive and less practical on space.

The 6 sits in my personal sweet spot and hence won the day. Sure - would love it to be £10-15k cheaper, but I tend to keep these things for 6-7 years and reckon this will be the last of the big V8s.

Good luck whichever way you go - don’t over think it and don’t listen to others. Do what’s right for you and don’t regret it. Life’s too short mate

Haha good choice although the Caterham does have a roof, it unclips and rolls up in under 30 seconds 😁😜

Having had the merc I agree on the looks.

Even though I owned the latest one, I still couldn’t tell if a new or old one was coming towards me!

Interior was very nice place to be though.

Is that one handed driving along like I used to be able to do in my Mrs old boxster?

My mate drove his 620s all the way to Spa, in the pissing rain with a roof on!
