I say ceramic must be in such car
Why
Given the life and price of steels, plus the problems a number of us of had with vibration I would go for ceramics if the car was a keeper. They don't work as expensive - comparatively - over higher mileages.
Never felt the need on my old RS4 (or any other car I’ve had for that matter ) and I used it hard and yet only got through one set of disks In the 5 years I had it so hardly economic sense !

They wear out relatively more quickly on track which is why my friends replace their cars with steel brakes,

They can easily be damaged prematurely which means massive replacement costs early

I’ve loved my ceramics - I had them on a previous C7, then my GTS and again on my latest C7. I plan to have them on the C8 assuming I can get the spec I want. They are pricey but I think their performance and life span are worth it.

First time see such photo with ceramics, I don’t know how the car was used maybe without love. I am not sure everyone brings Autobahn monster to a track, there are less smaller cars for a track like R8. Plus if you have steel brakes it wears fast and needs more investment time to
Time. Ceramics are for life

Sounds about right, I ordered several weeks ago and have a week 15.

I assume it probably depends on spec as well ie several of the same colour/spec in a specific week, I think custom colours also add several weeks

The steel brakes on the C8 are much bigger than the C7, 420 vs 390mm, so now the same size as the C7 ceramics. So the stock brakes are very generous indeed.

That might undermine the need for the ceramic option.

i still really fancy ceramics. its not just the size, but the limited wear and better stopping abilities....pricey though

Why do you think they have better stopping abilities on the road?

Better repeated stopping ability.

Lack of brake dust is primary benefit if not constantly leaning heavily on the brakes.

It’s a fat bastard of a car so they do make some sense.

Where are are steels ever going to fade on our busy roads these days

Regular ceramic coating on the wheels means brake dust should just fall off anyway with pressure washer.

I thought (and my driving experience with them seems to bear this out) that they feel more responsive - ie I stop faster. Obviously the overall longevity of them is a biggie as with the mileage I'll do they will pay for themselves over that time verses changing standard disks etc. They certainly have less fade than normal ones, and I like the fact that they don't create the mess either. I had issues with AP ventilated brakes on my subaru that I was getting ridges from the heat - probably because I was sitting on them when i;d been driving vigorously, and this meant those ridges coming back through the wheel. Skimming them sorted it, but it was a constant issue. My current RS6, and my previous 2 cars all were ceramic - so its been a good few years since I didn't have them, so maybe I'm wrong in my perceptions of the improvements with ceramics...

It’s really strange how people save on brakes, ceramic for such car must be, better save on other options like carbon diffuser or pan roof or audio system and add ceramics

But isn’t the initial bite in cold/wet worse than standard brakes thus making it more dangerous in the unexpected emergency stop

And has anybody actually been crazy/dangerous enough to get brake fade on the public road

I did when I was 17 in my first car but never since !

I am with you on this, I had ceramics on my last 911 as I did quite a lot of track days, but under normal load I would say that there was noticeably less bite until thy had warmed up. Each to their own, but on a car that is unlikely to see a track under my ownership I can't justify the cost, at almost £10k it's a big chunk of the overall cost of the car. Maybe if I was doing stellar mileage it may just make sense, but 10k pa is as much as I would do these days. The standard steels on my PE are easily up to the job and will probably see me through three years of ownership.

I'm doing around 25K per year - sometimes slightly more, so I reckon i'll get through several sets of standard brakes in that time, so the maths probably works out for me. Not that I have actually ordered yet....cant quite get the combination I want and with zero discount on offer i'm thinking of waiting till later next year now. Unimpressed with Audi UK and their response to the config queries.
