Touchscreen MMI - useful new tech or wasteful old tech?

Hi guys
Looking to upgrade my wonderful NA 2014 RS4 in Oz and considering the 2020;RS6 for which early preproduction orders are being taken.

But the touchscreens seem like a retrograde step with unnecessary complexities and removing the benefit of a stable knob and button platform that I’m used to.

I had a VW touchscreen on my R36 wagon prior and remember the challenges of touching the correct spot when driving other than smooth road at walking pace.

Any thoughts on the new system?

Cheers from Oz

:biggrin3:

If it’s like the Porsche Macan gets touch screen, then it ought to be good. I found that really easy to use, very precise and much easier than using the dial controls. It’s a change I miss now I’m back in a c7 so moving to the c8 I think will be positive

It looks very similar to the touchscreeen / climate interface I've just experienced in the Q8 I've been driving for a couple of weeks. The haptic feedback is actually quite good, once you get used to it ... but the fingerprints all over the screens look terrible after a few days ... so you'll need a glovebox full of magic cloths!
