Tyres

Post by Longy_UK » Mon Nov 13, 2023 12:57 pm

Looking for your thoughts here please fellow C8 owners.

I have a vorsprung on the 22's and it came with the dreaded Hankook's (Mind you I cant fault them and they've covered 15,000 miles!!)... My tyres are now due and im unsure which to go for. It looks like the four are going to cost £1000 - £1400 depending on the choice.

So the way I see it i have four options:
  • Michelin Pilot Sport 4 - Probably the undisputed best tyre but what about wear? I dont want to do a set in 5k.

Continental Sport Contact 7 - You know the tyre you performance guys should have got - but didnt. Again concern on wear here.

Pirelli P-Zero - the other out of the factory option but get little good press. I had these on my c7 a6 2.0tdi and got 40k out them...

Hankook S3 Evo - replace for what I have. This is about £400 cheaper and my first set saw me through 15k nicely. Cant say I have ever wanted more from my driving style...
So who is running what? Not concerned about the initial outlay but i don't want a tyre that's made out of cheese to offer performance i don't need?

Cheers.

Pirelli P-Zeros on mine. Now at 15000 miles and down to just about 4mm all round, however thinking about a change as it's starting to behave more like a boat in the slightest bit of standing water!

Thanks @si_b.

Well I shopped around and in the end went with kwik-fit... I wouldn't normally use them but they had 15% off four tyres and when you're paying circa £380 a tyre that a substantial saving.

If anyone is looking for tyres the black Friday deal ends on Sunday and will save you a few hundred quid.

Oh... I went with the Pirelli P-Zero AO's in the end. Hankook's were about £200 cheaper but who want Hankook's on their performance car. Judging by si_b's comment bellow the Pirellis wear better too as my hankooks are on the limit at 15k and i drive like a fairy.

Cheers.

Anyone running Pilot Sport 4s?

I need to change all 4 corners and am unsure whether to stick with the P-zero’s or not

Got PS4s on and done 40,000 kms - still with about 10,000 kms left on them, but got a screw in one so full set replacement now … same same

So, got great life out of them but that’s 1 year of driving with lots of country kms. Wouldn’t go to anything else - had the same on the RS4 before

Agree with that sentiment (although I'm in a C7 RS6) Started with the OE Pirelli's which were ok, although terrible for ackerman effect in the wet / cold, swapped to PS4S, absolutely no ackerman effect at all, subjectively more confidence in the wet and so far have worn very well all things considered, last time I had them measured they were at 6mm all around after about 12,000 miles. The only negative against for the Michelin against the Pirelli from my perspective is the minimal to non-existent alloy protection ridge.

Any feedback on the new Continental Sport Contact 7's being supplied on the Performance models?

I'm interested to know more about why they are dreaded. I did have some Hankooks many years ago on a 4x4 which were cheap and atrocious in the wet, but am pretty happy with the S1 so far. Is it that the brand has a reputation to overcome? Some more opinions are here https://www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre/Hankoo ... -evo-3.htm
