What are the realistic alternatives
Currently driving the 991.2 GTS & a Q5 S Line (one for fun one for winter) and looking in to the RS6 as a do all replacement (had 2x B8 RS4s & a Macan Turbo PP) got me thinking what are the realistic alternatives to the latest RS6, here are my thoughts:
1. RS6 FTW
2. RSQ8
3. Porsche Cayenne Turbo
4. Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo
5. Porsche Panamera Turbo
6. Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo
7. 991.2 GTS & a Q5 S Line
8. M5 Competition
9. E63 S
All about the same money (BMW & Merc way less due to dealer incentives, but really depreciate heavily)..just thinking where would others place their money...
I'm stumped as can see options on all of them!

You can get an almost new M5 Comp with very low miles for £65k. That's about half the price of new decently specced RS6. Personally I'd get an almost new M5 Comp until the RS6 gets a facelift, a Performance version and some decent discounts. Also have a better idea about residuals by then. Buy an RS6 now and you will lose a lot of money as soon as they start doing big discounts. None of the Porsche's interest me.
RSQ8 is huuuuuuugggeeeee. Costs about £130k doesn't it? Will depreciate heavily like all the the other pricey SUVs.

I’d fear for anyone getting into an RS6 at list. GFV may be OK, but if there’s no money in the car it’s a very expensive rental.
911 and Q5 is the cake and eat it option.

If you try to take all the variables such as running costs, depreciation and GFV into account then you need to remove the usability, looks, drive, excitement etc which IMO you can’t do. There are just too many variables
For me personally it’s the usability combined with performance and looks. I know it will loose money but that’s not why I buy cars. I’ve only ever made money on one car in my whole life which was a Defender and I’ve regretting selling it ever since
Personally I like the E63 S and M5 and the deals you can get on them are phenomenal however I think they both look great but not in Estate form. Therefore the RS6 gives me the best of both worlds. For me it will be a daily driver and I will be happy driving it and parking it anywhere.

Alpina B5 Touring is a realistic alternative, but no idea how residuals stack up with them.

Panamera ST turbo. Stunning and pretty rare on the roads, can also get the hybrid version.

There’s no doubt that the E63S and the M5 are the value for money options (not just the cheapest purchase price).
The others are premium priced for only marginal gains in ‘premium’.
The M5’s interior is lagging half a generation behind the others in that it doesn’t have a multi screen / haptic set up (but functionally the same as the others); and of course no estate version.
IMO the only thing that differentiates the Porsche / Audi SUV options is the brand - they’re largely identical cars underneath except the Panamera which has a DCT gearbox.
The hybrid options may add 100+ bhp but the reviews suggest that that is entirely offset by the additional weight - so maybe the non-hybrid Turbo Porsches are a better bet (similar dynamics, performance / cheaper purchase price).
I reckon the differentiators are brand, purchase price and DCT.
That said, I think the baby Urus RSQ8 will become a great niche model as most buyers would take a Cayenne over an Audi if they can’t afford the Urus itself.
However, if money truly isn’t an object, it’d be a Ferrari FF or Lusso for me.

V12 FF is a good call, Lussos not far away in price too, with a choice of engines. You could have the former for RS6 money, the latter it but more. Both have taken a good chunk of their depreciation.
There’s more to the Panamera vs RS6 comparison. Go drive both. One is far more rewarding in the handling department....it’s not the Audi. Ok, that’s based on C7, but early indication is the C8 is more of the same. The Porsche also gives you far more freedom on the options. The interior materials and finish are a notch up too. Agree DCT Is a good chunk of the £ though.

The only thing to bear in mind is that the ownership model is different to the lease / rental model in that the cars will be nearing the end / comoleted their service packs and warranties.
It wouldn’t stop me (if I was in that market), but for some the need to get involved with independent garages, non-dealer warranties, different funding model etc. isn’t to taste.
That said - it’s a Ferrari for arguably similar not much more whole life money!

So true, although I went to the Frankfurt motor-show to see the C8 (I was that keen), aside from the looks and the haptic interior - the C8 doesn’t even get the edge on the current M5 or E63S.
My next car will be an E63S wagon. My RS6 plus £20k will get me into a well optioned used E63S.

Expected a totally different response on here! Ha, good points made.
Had never considered the FF, only issue with that is ageing interior...I’m very put off by dated interiors...costs me a fortune!
Think I’ll be holding off a while though...M5 comp 6 months to a year may be a way forward.

Although I’d never normally go for white, my white RS6 with black optics has pleasantly grown on me; reminds me of a stormtrooper!
Only hot girls outside nightclubs try to get into my current car claiming they ‘thought’ it was a taxi... :0)

If I was in the market now to replace my C7 I would probably go for the M5, though the lack of a boot would be a big compromise.
