What tyre depth are folks replacing their tyres & which tyre are they choosing?

Hi folks, my October 2020 B9.5 Vorsprung is on just over 20k miles.

It came with Hankook tyres on it. They have 6mm tread on them. So are well above the legal limit.

I do fit winter wheel / tyres so that will be why the wear is low.

I’m about to fit the summer wheels / tyres (which have the factory Hankook) and am wondering at what tread depth folks are replacing their tyres?

Plus which tyres are they fitting?

I’ve read many good reports on the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres however I don’t think there is a Michelin Pilot Sport 4S with the Audi approved symbol.

Thanks in advance for your input

it depends if i feel the car braking loose ill get them changed generally 3mm for me
I used to think MPS4s was the ultimate tyre and always changed tp them when the oem tryes where done as all bar my currant RS4 that cam with conti sport 6s
I trie to get MPS4s when these were done but only Mercedes oem where available so i went for the newer Conti sport 7s after checking them out on a tyre review and the topped the test above the MPS4s
And having had 1 summer out of them so far i cant fault them and will be my go to tyre ftom now and i see they are oem on the RS6 now

For me it's usually aquaplaning/wet grip that does it for me, I have found that with Pirellis last set but one, they were down to marginally above the TWI, the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s that I have just removed were similar in wear. In the dry both sets were fine.

When I say aquaplaning, I mean avoiding it, but I can certainly feel the front end getting lighter and starting to wander if I hit a skin of water on the A82, any National Speed Limit road and Motorway.

Its a butt clenching moment when I come up against the above travelling circa 70-80 mph, I usually ease off and let the front end dig in a little, but it's time to change.

I have to say I normally go PS4’s and will be needing tyres soon.

Be interesting to see what others say regarding what they have chosen for 20” wheels ?

Michelin has 80 quid off a set just now, Nathan. I got my claim acknowledged by Michelin the day after I lodged it..

£990.00 delivered then 80 cash back within the month.
