4 Weeks ownership new questions

Post by E10EAN » Mon Feb 12, 2024 8:06 pm

Hi enjoying the car now feel very comfortable and still cant understand all the features.

Is this engine like the B7 with oil ?

The car was serviced in December at 18,500 and just about to hit 21k checked the oil on the display it’s close to half.

I have had some serious fun on the weekends and it’s to be expected but nearly half ? Is that right.

Sometimes I can smell oil in the car, like a burning smell excess oil of the turbo pipes. (reminds me of my Renault 5 GT Turbo) the heat with the fans running a lot especially on a crazy run.

I going to take it to Audi for overall check but do I need to be concerned?

Apologies if the above doesn’t make sense

I suppose the first thing is I'm glad you're enjoying the car.
My oil level doesn't really move. When you say it is now at half on the MMI oil level indicator, what level was it after it was serviced as you haven't said.
Don't forget anywhere between the max and min mark is OK. If the oil light comes on on the dash its usually to late!
If you are worried, I would keep a photo record on your phone, it will time and date stamp each one and you can see any usage over a known time frame.
You could always go hunting for where the oil smell is coming with a torch, there's not a lot you can see from underneath because of the engine floor panel, unless you're loosing that much it is working its way out. Follow your nose so to speak.
What do the inside of your exhaust tips look like? black and dry OK, oily shinny black not.
Check the area below the oil filler cap to see if the last time it was filled they spilt some and didn't wipe it all off.
Check around your oil filter housing, remove the engine cover and look between the V under the turbo heat shield at the back of the engine where the oil cooler is fitted.

I hope it helps
