Apple play

Post by Rwg » Sun Feb 11, 2024 12:25 pm

Hi
Please don't judge me, after 4 years ownership of my B9 rs4, I decided to see what apple play is about seeing that I have only been using Bluetooth to stream my music.

Whilst sat in Costa car park having a coffee & donut, it seems to me that I can only access apple play if my iPhone is hard wired to USB, would this be correct or can I access it without hard wiring phone ?

I also tried the cd player in glove box for first time with a dvd of a certain Welsh comedian and then sat in car park for 45 mins laughing my head off.

I know Carplay is wired only on 2018 cars but Wireless carplay came to Audi at a later year.

I find the best use is for Google Maps, I think the navigation is better than the inbuilt Audi navigation but I do miss a touch screen.

Correct, the Apple CarPlay integration at least on the pre-facelift is wired only. However you can buy wireless CarPlay adapters quite easily. I have one that sits neatly on the little shelf at the front of the centre console, connected to the USB port there.

The one downside of using a wireless adapter is that every time you park and get out of the car, the car says "Your mobile phone is still in the vehicle" because by its factory logic, CarPlay connected must mean the phone is still plugged in.
