Car insurance hike

I received my car insurance renewal this morning. I was braced for a fairly hefty rise but wasn't quite prepared for the 78% increase that LV quoted me to renew. Same RS4, same address, full NCB and I've never made a claim. Staggering. Has anybody else faced a steep rise in their renewal premium recently?

My intial increase was 30%, when I phoned up and asked why the increase was 3 times the current rate of inflation, they couldn't give me an answer.
I said I could understand 10% maybe. Any how some keyboard tapping later, adding breakdown cover for my up and coming European trip it was about 12% so I didn't feel as bad.
I have to feel sorry for the poor guys and lasses in the call centers who have to deal with customers irrate with the amount it has gone up.
I'm glad I don't drive an EV or a Range Rover!
All the insurance underwriters are in a cabal anyway

Yep, mine was the same. I checked all of the comparison websites and made little to no difference. I then tried direct with Audi and they were the cheapest by being 20% higher than last year.

Thanks for all the replies. I got quotes from several other insurers (including Audi) but LV still worked out the least expensive. When I spoke to LV - as with Jools' experience - they declined to dicuss the reasons for indiviual policy increases but did offer to reduce my renewal premium by £40. Interestingly, I asked them what difference fitting an immobiliser would make (the car already has a tracker) and they said it wouldn't change the premium at all. I have a suspicion that the big increase in my case is largely age-related - I've been retired a few years now and, although insurers claim that older drivers don't present a risk until much later in their lives, I have come across news articles that suggest they start to inflate premiums much earlier.

Your postcode makes a huge difference too. I checked my car for my previous address (as you do) and it was nearly 300% higher! That premium would have made me sell the car tomorrow if I was still there.

Same as above, stayed with LV as it was cheaper than the well known comparison site but it’s another kick in the knackers
