Hi folks,

Those of you who have the Tour Pack on your vehicles, how useful do you find it? I'm looking at a car that has a great spec but it's missing the Tour Pack. It has all my other must-haves, though it also isn't in my first choice colour which would be Nardo / Black Pack (it's Daytona Carbon Ed Matt Alu).

Just agonising over whether I should consider the Tour Pk a must have or not, and whether I should wait for the perfect spec (incl colour) to appear or pull the trigger. I anticipate a fair bit of motorway driving so would have thought lane hold and adaptive cruise pretty handy.

Had your pack on my RS5 and 6 and it was invaluable. I’ll be looking for it on my next car. Brilliant bit of kit.
Well worth holding out on as the ‘perfect car’ will eventually come along.
Generally it takes me 2 months of daily searches before I find the right one.

Appreciate the insights, Steveo. I've only been looking seriously (daily, with spreadsheets!) for a couple of weeks. I'll probably wait it out for the right one as you suggest. My personality would nag me knowing it was a missing feature.

Hard to gauge how rare the higher spec cars are as a newbie, but everything on the approved used since I've been looking has been surprisingly low specced.

I held out as I had ACC on my Golf R estate and missed it when I bought a B8 RS4.

It’s a pretty rare option, it took me months to find a car with it but I was pretty flexible with everything else. Well worth the wait.

Whereas I had ACC on my M5 and deliberately sought a car without it this time....found the car in front would be slowing down and I would do the same without realising! And I never liked it stopping me when traffic stopped so I would intervene...

Hated the Lane assist on the M5 too, prefer my own inputs. Each to their own though.

I don't have any such gizmos on my Audi, but I very definitely do on my Volvo and I wouldn't be without it.
Adaptive cruise that operates seamlessly from zero to highly illegal speeds is the must have; Lane warnings, speed limits etc all help too.
Drove home in the Volvo today in the crap weather, much of it on the M25, 3 hours that would normally have been less than 2, and was actually relaxed at the end as the car did most of the hard work in the traffic. 8-speed auto made it smooth and quiet too and 4WD dealt competently with the mega-puddles.

Thanks for the input, all. I've used ACC and lane hold on other marques and found them really helpful features on longer motorway stretches. I'll stick it out for the option.

Here are my thoughts. I’ve a 2020 RS4 9.5 Vorsprung. I like the adaptive radar cruise. That said it has some flaws or perhaps it’s just the nature of acc. For example if the car speed is set for 70mph & it starts to head round a long bend on a motorway. It will slow down somewhat annoyingly if there is a car in the opposite lane I’m front which on the bend appears on the line of sight of the system. It’s like the system isn’t intelligent enough to know that this car is in its own lane. I’ve even had the car brake quite strongly as if it thinks a car has appeared in the same lane just in front. Saying all that I still use the acc but one need to be aware of this potential issue when heading round a bend on a dual carriageway / motorway.

I’m not very keen on the lane keep assist at all. I’ve used the system on a BMW340X-drive & it seemed to stay locked on the lane better. The one in my RS4 will detect the lane markings but within a few mins will soon loose the markings. I find it just not worth switching on.

So in summary. I like the acc even with its flaws however I’m not keen on the lane keep assist.

I'd agree with the views on ACC flaws; there are limits on how clever it can be and yes it sometimes thinks cars are obstacles when they aren't and vice-versa, but it's easy to forget just how clever (and sometimes equally dumb!) the human brain can be at anticipating things.
But you very soon get used to how it works; I've had it for over 5 years now and it will be an absolute mandatory item on any "modern" car I buy.

As for lane assist I've never driven a car where it's been much, if any, use. The blind-spot detectors on the other hand, especially the ones that "fight back" when you try to move sideways into another vehicle, are pretty useful.
