start stop disable...easy fix

Post by Tweaky » Wed May 19, 2021 1:50 pm

I know a lot of people hate the start stop function on the car and it is a pain to have to over ride it everytime you get in. well I have had my car for 1.5 years now and the other day I took it into my local main dealer as the start stop had not worked once in the 1.5 years of ownership and I wanted to make sure nothing was broken etc. Well after 3 visits and much head scratching it turns out that I have the aircon system on 3 zone and one of my kids had turned the temp control in the back upto High. This meant that the Start Stop would not work. Now you would never know unless you sat in the back and looked at the control. The heater is obviously not upto much in the back there as not one passenger mentioned it throughout the heat last summer. I guess the front system simply over powers it.

Anyway the long and short it whack up the back to Hi then you will have a disabled Start Stop system....Easy peasy. :jump:

Never really understood the point of having essentially four different micro climates in such a confined space, I synch mine in any cars that allow it

I know if the AC is cooling then start stop will not stop the engine. Also it is disabled by the Sport mode in the gearbox.
I guess your fix works by keeping the AC on permanently. I just drive everywhere in sport mode :D

I tried some coding (OBD port) software called OBDeleven but the settings would never stick. Coding apps seem to work well on BMWs but not on Audis. I think it is a similar story with the ECU.

If you have Ghost-II fitted, it has a hidden function to disable stop start that actually reverses the switch so it’s default is deactivated.
To enable this:
Ignition on
Enter your code (2 flashes)
Press accelerator pedal and keep it pressed
Pull drivers window switch up 20 times.
To return to normal pull up 21 times

IGN off all done.

Paul
