TPM

Post by Swegen » Sun Apr 25, 2021 12:00 am

Hi, just trying to work our if am missing something on my B9.5. In the RS monitor on MMI the tyre pressure system is always unavailable. Checking the description of the TPM in the configurator it says 'Air pressures and temperatures of wheels can be displayed in the driver information system of in the audi virtual cockpit'

Its possible that the system is not fitted as it was an option on the pre face lift

The MyAudi App will reveal the spec of your vehicle.

TBH the TPM is a pants implementation - one could reasonably expect the software to compensate for tyre temperature (pressures rise as the tyres get warmer), however it doesn't so the pressure readings constantly change.

Just look to see if your air valves are silver or black. Srd rubber black valves means you don't have the tpms system.

Don’t they all have TPMS? But not all have the pressure display on MMI (which was an option on early cars IRRC).

There are two kinds of TPMS, one uses the ABS sensors to determine if the tires rolling radius has changed (rubber valve stems) and the second, more expensive version (metallic valve stems) has sensor box in each wheel that wirelessly communicates temp and pressure data to a display in the virtual cockpit.

yeah my valve stems are rubber so the TPM that came default with with NZ config will be the cheaper one, thanks for clarifying.

All new cars have a tpms system by Law I think. There are two types though. A direct tpms system has sensors in the tyres and indirect uses the cars abs sensors to calculate the loss in pressure.
