Aluminium Styling Pack Fault

Post by SamuelS » Wed Apr 07, 2021 12:46 pm

Dear fellow Audi RS enthusiasts,

I took delivery of my Audi RS4 B9 a few months ago and have enjoyed every mile so far!
However, on delivery I noticed some strange marks to the aluminium styling trim around the windows and roof rails.

I didn't think much of it at the time and thought it was just some water residue. I recently took the vehicle to be
detailed and ceramic coated and expected this residue to be removed however they informed me that it couldn't be cleaned off and didn't want to try using chemicals on it which could cause further damage.

So I've just taken my car to my local dealer hoping that they would fix this under warranty. However they declined it and said this is the responsibility of the dealership I bought the car from...

It would be helpful to know if anyone else has had similar issues with aluminium trim?
Any suggestions on how I should proceed would be appreciated too!

Please see photos attached
Kind regards,
Sam

This issue has arisen in the Q3 Owners club forum recently - most likely when the car was cleaned when new for the PDI cleaning bay people in auto-pilot mode sprayed the car with the wheel cleaner which is a mild acid - hence the result. I had a similar issue on an A4 Cabrio a few years ago, the trims had to be replaced.

When I had my B7 RS4 new, I got bird crap on one of the aluminium trims and it created a stain that could never be removed. I think it’s quite normal for stains to occur on anodized aluminium. You need to take extra care.

Thank you for the help! I guess there will be no way to prove to the dealer that they made this error.
Just waiting on a quote for replacement parts... hopefully not too pricey

This is a fault from manufacturer as the spots are under the clear coat and can't be buffed out
You need to get them to replace the trim
I had this on my B7 thats why i always go for the black pack on my cars
A friend had this on her merc on delivery and she wasn't happy when i pointed it out but she did get it changed under warrenty
So back to the dealer im afraid

I had an issue with some black trim on my BMW 635D a few years back. The paint on some of the trim round the windows was bubbling.
I had not bought the car from my local dealer but they submitted a claim to BMW & the trim surrounds were replaced.
If it’s a warranty job, any dealer should be able to submit a claim.
Should there be some uncertainty if it is wear or damage then I’d suggest taking to the garage who supplied you the car.
Best wishes getting it sorted

Update:
My local Audi dealer has now quoted me for parts and labour.
The price seemed steep so I just wanted to double check with you guys.
£2500 for parts and £1000 for labour
total of £3500 plus vat

This is for all the window trim surrounds and both roof rails.

Bit of a tough one to swallow since the car is only a few months old...

Is the trim around the small rear windows damaged? You cant but the trim on its own for that window, so buying the full window is the only option. For everything else I have priced up on LLLparts and it is about £1250 delivered. Are you not comfortable doing it yourself? I have some manuals to help you out if you do feel comfortable having a go.

If not get them all wrapped black. but I wouldn't be paying £4200 for it.

Unfortunately my local dealer didn't want to take responsibility under warranty as they classified it as 'wear and tear'
Totally ridiculous since the car is only a few months old and covered 1000 miles...

Ive raised this issue with Audi Uk now and have had correspondence with someone from customer relations who is investigating the situation. They are currently in discussions with the original dealer (Audi Listers Coventry)
Hopefully they do the right thing and replace the trim.

That’s nonsense & a dreadful reflection on the dealer. How old is the car? It sounds like it brand new. In the past I’ve suggested I’d reject it. At this stage they have done something to fix the issue. One doesn’t need this hassle. It’s make me annoyed & it’s not my car. I hope you get it fixed soon.
