Flat key battery

Post by Dannyboy123 » Fri Apr 02, 2021 4:18 pm

How long do the key batteries last on the b9.5 RS4's. I only picked the car up in November, car has 2000 miles on and I get a message now to say the key battery is low

Hi Danny. Replace it once per year approximately. Maybe your battery wasn’t 100% when new. No big deal, it gives you plenty of warning, I kept forgetting and finally replaced battery after 2 weeks

Paul

The key fob battery life is I fear a reflection of keyless entry. Apparently the key tries to ping the car regularly which no doubt ends up taking its toll on battery life I had my A4 s-line black edition for 6 years and only changed the battery once. I've had my RS for two years now and changed the battery 4 times so far.
Having said that not all CR2032 batteries are equal I think using good quality batteries and not Poundland ones makes a difference, I'm sure Poundland would want to disagree!

Sad, but true.
If it takes CR2032 you can buy them "cheap as chips". I get through a fair few on assorted devices (NOT car fobs) and buy strips of 10 online for about £1 including postage!

My good old S8 keys work fine and I've never changed the batteries in the 8+ years I've had it.
I "think" it takes a pair of smaller batteries than CR2032, CR1620 I believe, but I've yet to need to look.
My previous S8, which I had for about 11 years, was the same - never changed a key fob battery.

The mrs has a juke with keyless entry and it's 6 years old, only replaced the battery last year.
