Head Up Display Retrofit - A4 B9 8W

Post by Pturner3 » Mon Mar 08, 2021 12:41 am

Hi,

Has anyone any experience with retrofitting Head Up Display KS1 to A4 B9? My car is 2019 Sport Edition RS4.

I have VCP, HEX-NET and current flow diagrams, workhop manual.

Looking into this the hardware side looks fairly straight forward:

Dash: 8W2857001J
HUD unit with integrated contorl module (J898): 8W5919617C
Light switch for HUD adjustment: 4M0941531P
New windscreen - lets place this requirement aside for now...

Looking at the current flow diagrams, there doesn't appear be too much wiring to connect. Would be interested to seek advice, and also on coding, using 2nd hand HUD, HUD calibration etc...

Thanks,
Phil

Would you be up for sharing learnings, and any photos of the process if you have them?

Hi,

No I haven't, sorry. Best place to start is an official parts website to see what you need. And then get hold of the current flow diagrams to check connections. Is your car a UK vehicle?

It can be quite involved to research what is required for retrofits, as other components can be affected and may not be compatible without upgrade too.

Look up PR codes for the equipment you want to fit. Then use current flow diagrams to see all the modules and components the system connects to. Then go to parts manual and find out all the parts needed that are unique to the PR code of the equipment you want to fit. Lots of back and forth and tracing things out. Often it may not be economical unless you can get everything second hand. It's not always as simple as just buying the B&O parts for example... But I don't know. There are just quite a few considerations..

Cheers, it does look like its probably not worth the hassle tbh, i wouldn't have a clue about flow diagrams i paint cars for a living, i might look at upgrading the speakers aftermarket and fit B & O speaker covers maybe

The spec aint to bad on my car and had most things i wanted but had to compromise with B & O, do you know if road speed sign recognition is easy to do, i have head up display
