Google Earth ending December 2020 for 2018 models or older
https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthre ... s-or-older
Yeah, this is serious - so have an 2018 MY car with those lovely Google Earth map overlays in satnav? Apparently Google's platform technology has changed and from the end of Dec 2020, i.e. next month the Google Earth map overlays are going to stop working, Connect will still be operational (thankfully). Audi were able to re-engineer MY2019 cars so it won't be an issue.
Seems almost criminal, that Jan 2018 67 plate B9 RS4 I had would have been effected.

Ah, mine stopped working about a week ago
Car goes into audi on Tuesday for something else, so I’ll get them to sort it at the same time

Re: Google Earth ending December 2020 for 2018 models or older
I don't really use the overlays as found them a bit too distracting... That said, if the option is there, then it should work!
The overlays worked fine (MY2018 model) in September when I got the car but this thread caused me to check and and indeed, my overlays no longer work. It looks like my Google maps subscription ends at the end of this year and my Connect services will currently expire when the manufacturers warranty also expires in mid Feb'21.
I contacted my local dealer (Oxford) and there ensued a generally confused conversation which resulted in them saying that my vehicle had no outstanding software update recalls and it's my subscription that's expired and they'll contact Audi Germany to extend it for me!
Not convinced, I rang the Audi Connect customer services line and the chap I spoke with told me that Audi and Google have parted ways from next year. He took my VIN and confirmed that my car is eligible for an update to the navigation system but they are rolling this out to owners of the newer??!! models first and 2018MY are down the priority list.
Quite what this 'update' will be, he couldn't tell me.... The cynic in me guesses it's simply removing the option for 'Google Maps' from the drop down list!
All, in all, if it never worked again, it's not the end of the world for me personally, but appreciate it might be a bigger deal for others. The live traffic overlay still works but I'm guessing that will stop if I don't renew Connect services next month. Depending on the cost of that... worse case, Android Auto it is!
It would be interesting to hear if anyone with a MY2018 gets the update and whether it resurrects some form of Satellite overlay, Google or otherwise.

This thread and specifically post 285 onwards suggested that Google Maps is being replaced by overlays from Maxar Technologies.

Re: Google Earth ending December 2020 for 2018 models or older
In July I had mine serviced and also asked for a sw update regarding google maps.
Since then I have Maxar mentioned on the screen.
At the moment it still works as opposed to some where google already stopped working.
Curious if it will still work in january.

It has been suggested that 2019MY cars (so probably built from around week 22 onwards in 2018) will have the compatible software - when was yours built?

It is a 03/18 build I believe, but not sure. Bought it on 2/5/18.
I did ask for an update myself.
They did, but not sure the google issue is solved now.
At least it still works atm.
Future will tell.

I rather suspect that the Google data source is fading - on another forum a member has similar issues.
