Front & rear pads & rotors

Post by Jeloz » Mon Aug 24, 2020 2:09 am

Hi Guys

I am at 30,000km in and just over 2 years old.
Still love it!!

In March (i was quoted by Audi Centre Sydney, owned by Audi Australia) as below .

******

Afternoon Jeremy,

As discussed on the phone, vehicle requires new brake pads and rotors front and rear.

Fronts pads and rotors supplied and fitted
$4291.68

Rear pads and rotors supplied and fitted
$3572.27

Total cost to repair $7863.95 (This is about £4400)

When measuring the pad we include the backing plate as well in the figure
Rears are at 10MM which is the minimum thickness

Fronts have less than a mm to go, and the wear limit light will come on,

Let me know which direction you would like to take

**************

I wrote back saying that cost was prohibitive etc abs within 24hrs!!! they dropped that to AUD $6457.43 (£3600)

Anyway, I went to a local tyre / wheel euro specialist and i got the rotors machined and genuine Audi pads grey imported from Audi Singapore - total was AUD $1600 (£900!)

All in all a result...

My car gets driven quite hard every 4-6 weeks as i go on country drives with the Audi Sydney club and other groups so I’m planning ahead for rotors and pads however there just seems to be almost no 3rd party options ....

I found these for the front in the UK

https://www.tarox.co.uk/?s=&ymm_search= ... l=RS4+(B9)

But for some reason they don’t make for the rear.

Keen to get your feedback and solutions please.

Cheers

Jeremy

This seems to be a common theme from Audi
I change my tyres from summer to winter every year and caliper the disk when the wheels are off
And have had Audi several times telling me my disks are done when there is more than half the allowed wear left ( only 2mm from new to worn)
I always get OEM disks and pads and get reputable garage to do the brakes
as the rears need to be set in service mode to allow the pads and disks to be removed

I see you have the fastest colour too 😁👍

Fastest colour yes!!

So what OEM pads and rotors do you use?

Has anyone else found OEMs?

Thanks

This is exactly the reason you should put EBC Redstuff pads in. They don't wear the discs out - just polish them like mirrors.

yeah I was thinking after market saying OEM in error......I just found Audi's prices exorbitant but then on the flip side it's comparable to owning an RS model.

Thanks mate

I also found this solution from the UK , this listing only shows the fronts

https://www.tarox.co.uk/?s=&ymm_search= ... l=RS4+(B9)

Plus they have the rears

Hi Jeremy,

Thank you for the additional information. I have been able to identify the rear brakes for your car and the good news is that they already exist in our range. I can’t add them to the website until I get back to my other computer currently setup at home but the details are as follows:

Front discs S2-3131 £1188.00
Front pads SP9258 £234.00
Rear discs S2-2789 £853.20
Rear pads SP9233 £94.80

The rear discs are made to the same specification as the fronts; billet steel rotors matched to billet alloy bells in a semi floating configuration.

All in all this would be $4600 plus local fitting ..

Versus Audi quoting AUD $7800 then $6500 fitted
