Must have options on the B9 RS4

Post by silky16v » Thu Jan 16, 2020 1:59 pm

Hi been looking at B9 RS4 for a while now and recently test drove one at local audi dealer

The car in question didn't have DRC or the sound and lighting pack or Matrix lights

with all the previous issues surrounding DRC and the fact i live in the hilly and potholed cumbria is the DRC a must? (the car drove and handled superb on the B-road i took it down)

the car had the interior extended LED lighting so what else do you get the the sound and lighting pack (B&O audio isn't a deal breaker for me)

the car did have the Pano roof, mirrors, 20" alloys, sports exhaust, red calipers, privacy glass, power tailgate and KESSY, front and rear heated seats

I don't do motorway driving or a lot of night driving so matrix and ACC isn't a must for me either

Thanks

I didn't have DRC and didn't miss it tbf, rides very well without. The matrix lights are awesome though!

i also dont have DRC, the ride is a bit firmer than my old B8 RS4 with DRC around town, but is fine. having had DRC problems i wanted to avoid it like the plague, especially as i am likey to have my car still out of warranty.

I don't have DRC and avoided it when speccing because of reliability concerns. I'm perfectly happy with the ride and live, work and do the majority of my driving on rural A, B and unclassified roads. The ride can sometimes get a bit 'jiggly' at lower speeds over certain surfaces, which the DRC would probably deal with better.

I stuck with standard 19 wheels. Although not as "meaty" I prefer the pattern (I don't like any of the 20s) and the car rides better and less prone to pothole damage (a major issue in my part of the world). If you find the B9 20s a bit meh too, get a car with 19s and spend the extra money on some dished C7 RS6 forged 20 alloys - light, strong and with the perfect offset for RS4 (equiv to 10mm spacers all round).

If you haven’t had matrix before you won’t know what you are missing.

They are however not for motorway but for all other roads which make driving that bit safer again

I’ve had them on my previous AMG e class and on my current beetle.

Good luck with the search !

Re matrix headlights: I had them on my RS6 and ended up switching to normal mode as I often got flashed (I live in an area with lots of twisty roads and hills and the matrix seemed to struggle with both). I purposefully avoided them on the RS4 and find the standard LEDs with auto dip to be brilliant. I know you lose the full beam down the sides of an oncoming car / one in front but I haven’t noticed the difference on the country roads. And, if something goes wrong, I won’t face a stupid bill (my 4 is a keeper daily).

I had the matrix lights on my B9 RS4 loved them and never had anyone flash me. However they were not a £2K plus option like they are on my next car, so I have not ticked that box and will probably regret it.

I also didn't have DRC and did on my B8 and did not miss it or the hassle of getting the dealer to sort it out when it was failing.

I think the must have options are more to do with the exterior appearance such as black pack, sports exhaust, privacy glass and wheels.

Next car a Porsche ?

That’s roughly what I paid, if not a bit more.

Hi,
My RS4 has many options, but if I had to choose the must haves my choice would be:
RS sports exhaust for the looks and sound
20” wheels - looks better in my opinion
Matrix LED lights
Pano sunroof
Privacy glass
Folding dimming mirrors
Heated front and rear seats
Electric Memory drivers seat
Carbon inlays
Storage pack
Comfort and sound pack
Driver assistance pack - Tour
Parking advanced pack
5 year warranty!

With regards to the multi-colour LED, once set I haven’t changed it. The parking sensors and safety when reversing or pulling out is excellent. It has applied the brakes a few times (scaring the life out of me) preventing possible collisions.
I love the Matrix LED lights, never been flashed.

Hope this helps
Regards
Paul

For me the minimum when i looked for one early last year was
Sports exhaust
DRC
Black pack
matrix headlights
Sound pack B&O

But the one i found had all of the above plus
Panoramic roof
HUD
Not that would have spec'ed the roof or HUD i am likeing them the roof lightens up the cabin and the HUD is great for pushing on in manual mode as it shows the gears and has a light indicator for the revs

thanks all, my initial thoughts on DRC and Matrix lights are right that i'm unlikely to notice if i not had matrix before and don't do night driving

the spec of the car i've test drove is pefect apart from light & sound and black pack

black pack can be sorted with professionally applied vinyl along with the hydro dipping of the silver inlays and wing mirrors

but the B&O and lighting not so easy fixed

i'll keep searching s there are alot of cars coming to market now and many Audi dealers not shifting stock and asking way to much ££££ for them and no 2nd hand deals to be had on used RS models
