Winter tires, what pressure do you run?

Post by PieterZ » Thu Oct 24, 2019 7:15 pm

In short, last year I inflated my 20” winter tires at the same pressure as my summer tires. (front 2.8 and rear 2.5 bar)
Never had issues, handling is good and tire wear on 8k km is even
But recently I noticed the Sticker has a higher pressure for the winter tires!
So yesterday I changed my tires to the winter set and inflated them as sugested. (Front 3.2 and rear 2.9 bar)
Usually there’s just me and the misses an mostly no luggage.
I found the ride to be a bit harsh compared to last year. You feel every bump in the road...
What pressure do you guys run?
Why would they suggest a higher pressure?

I read that as suggesting a higher pressure ONLY when exceeding 250km/hr with 20" M+S tyres.

Correct, mine runs 280.
Winter tires are rated at 270.
So strictly compared in the same circumstances summer is lower pressure as winter tires.

I think it refers to the speed you are (or will be) travelling at, not the maximum speed your tyres are rated for.

I don’t know, it is the only pressure they mention for 20”?
Wear on the summers and winters (only did 8k km on them) is good and even with the same lower pressure.
I kinda prefer the lower pressure for the winters.
Maybe someone knows the reason for the higher pressure?

My tire dealer replied, those pressures are too high.
He advised running the same pressure as my summer tires.
The ride quality sucked at the advised pressure.

According to the quality and safety standards, it is recommended to inflate your winter tire up to 30-35 PSI.
