Gents

I have recently got a set of the original RS4 19" alloy which i will be using for winter tyres
The standard size on these from audi are 265 35 19
Bug i would like to go down to 255 35 19
As there is more selection of winter tyre and thinner tyre is better in the snow
My worry is is this too small for the rim and would i loose the rim protection

Or just stick with the standard size
I welcome your advice
1 year on from original post and although early, am thinking about new rubber this Winter.
Have 20" rims and curious if any members here have run the following tires in Winter and can offer any general feedback re ice road performance? https://www.continental-tyres.co.uk/car ... t-ts-850-p

Conti have B9 Avant specific size, 20" no sidewalks / rim downsizing required, but from what I read they seem more of a snow performance tire than ice, albeit not poor for the latter.
I'm guessing ice performance is also what UK drivers would 'mostly' lean towards, and so am hoping maybe that there's (favorable) owner feedback on these 850P's, before I decide.

TIA

S4tokyo
I have a set of Conti TS 850's that I used to use on my front wheel drive A4.
Compared to the Contact 6's its like putting tyres on with twice as much grip on :jump:

The Contact 6's would get swirly on the damp cold black stuff when the temp dropped into single digits. Put the TS 850's on and the grip was back again :jump_clap: Use in snow was great to no wheel spin unless you get to heavy footed.

I would definitely recommend them but watch running them above 8 or 9 degrees as you'll start eating them. The only problem I had was temperature watching when I put them on. The last couple of years I didn't even bother swapping them over as the temp didn't drop for long enough to warrant it

I hope this helps
Jools

Thx Jools. That'8 or 9 degrees' comment is very interesting.
