Parking brake

Can any of you guy tell me if this is normal
When i press the park button the it does not engage the handbrake

My RS4 never did it, however the loaner 19 plate A6 (barge) does apply the handbrake the moment you hit the park button.

my B8 did apply the brake when put into park so i will have to get used to this not applying the hand brake

The handbrake engages when you lift the button upwards.
Pressing disengages. I hope this is what you mean and I'm not just being pedantic

the reason i asked was that in my B8 RS4 when you put the car into park it automatically engaged the hand brake but not so on the B9 just wanted to check this was normal

oops than I misread the original post.
No, park does not engage the handbrake on my F5 RS5 (equivalent to B9 RS4).
I often feel the car move an inch or so while the park pawl engages after I release the foot brake when getting out.

Yep pain as i was used to the B8 doing it all together

Correct.
But if you engage auto hold (if you have that option) it will activate the parking brake after you shut down the car.
