Autowatch Ghost 2

Have been sitting on the fence over getting a CAN bus immobiliser device fitted thinking to myself that GAP insurance would be the safety net if the red beast got nicked and I'd just get another. The trouble with that theory now is that if it was nicked then it would probably be irreplaceable - there is no sign of them reappearing in the Audi price list anytime soon. A TV news report last week indicated that keyless high-end Audi thefts are running at around 25 a month in the West Midlands alone so some additional security would be wise.

Surfing the tinternet suggested the latest incarnation of the Autowatch Ghost (2) is worth a shot, phoned a few places - some really iffy re-sellers out there, take your money and then farm the fitting out to independents or claim having a mobile service but really want you to do a 180 mile round trip to their workshops. I've found a firm that would appear to be genuine - interestingly they advise against using the mobile app capability.

Has anyone here got experience of the devices?

There is a spate of keyless entry thefts in Hampshire too at the moment.
FYI in case you are not aware, we can disable keyless entry on the B9 i.e. the function to unlock the doors.
I have disabled it and I don't miss it at all.

I've done that and have Ghost just in case. To the OP, make sure you use an authorized reseller and you should be OK. The outfit I used were mobile and came to the house.

Not sure of your location, but I can highly recommend these guys https://www.audiofile-incar.co.uk they put a thinkaware 800 in mine in the first week I had it, superb install. They have clients who come from all over Europe for their audio installs.

Thanks Cuttsy - they look like a professional outfit too. I've gone with these people, seemed to be knowledgeable about the product and my 'mickey-mouse sensor' wasn't triggered ...I'll find out for sure on the 19th:https://www.trackingmycar.co.uk/product ... h-ghost-2/

I've disabled my keyless entry too. I never gelled with it on my B8 either as I was never really sure it was locked or not, or I'd sometimes lock it and brush past the handle and it'd unlock

Ghost Installed - painless to use, more peace of mind. The reseller did a neat job, pleased with the end of result.

Hi, with your Autowatch Ghost 2, can you use the steering wheel buttons? Also if you try starting without the code, does the car throw up a load of malfunction codes and things don’t work until VCDS reset is done?

On mine, I can only use the window buttons and it throws up faults if you get the wrong code - so I was wondering if it’s correctly installed?

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul

I sold the car - however, yes the installer that put mine here coded it to use a combination of steering wheel buttons. The car would start - however you couldn't get the shift lever into Drive (D) unless the key sequence was correctly completed.

Ok John - useful to know.
Does anyone else have GhostII working on preventing the engine from starting and using steering wheel buttons and more? Without it giving lots of fault codes if trying to start without using the correct code?

I’m not happy with the way mine behaves, although it is protected.

Cheers
Paul

Mine was same, would start with no code but stalled if selecting gear with no code.

I had no way to check myself sorry. Audi never mentioned any fault codes though.

Ok, you would have known if it did, because the dash lights up with lots of fault Error messages!
