Oil

Post by Jeloz » Wed Dec 26, 2018 10:46 pm

Merry Christmas fellow RS4ers :nogarors4:

Checking my oil via the service menu and it states fine but it’s about 2/5ths full.

Have only travelled 5600km so surprised it’s so low.
Is that normal? How much oil is your car burning?

Planning ahead - what oil are you buying , assuming this may be a localised answer...

I’ve read on an Australian Audi group that this is good for RS models - LiquiMoly TOP TEC 4200 5W30 5L or a cheaper alternative is Castrol Edge Titanium FST 5W30 .

Cheers

Mine's done 7,200 km and the oil level shows as 5 or 6 out of 8 (so about 2/3 full)

I had to add oil to mine after I picked it up - fail to Newbury Audi, but not worth the 200 mile round trip to get it done. The sensor says it's either spot on or one segment below maximum. There is almost 8 litres of the stuff in there, all the Audi cars I've owned have liked oil for the 1st year or so.

Upto 5k km it used around 1 notch on the digital dipstick. Then I had an oilchange filter included.
Next (almost) 10k km it didn’t go down at all.
I had the oil changed a second time when my thermostat was replaced.
After that change I’ve now done just 1500 km and still no shown consumption.
Oil is Audi’s longlife, the one the dealer uses.
I don’t believe in 30k km intervals.
I will have it serviced every 15k km.
It was run in propperly, Untill I had 5k km.
Oil is at 90 deg before I gun it, always.
The engine seems to have appreciated al that. 😊

Just did an oil and filter change on mine 5 days ago. It was at 3/4 of the way up the digital guage before, so I filled it up to similar level.

The B9 holds about 7 1/2 lires, so might this warning be regarding 2/5th of the 'min~max' level, as opposed to '2/5th' of the complete fill level? Top up only entails adding 1 ~ 1.5 litres.

You are kidding .... right?
But in case you are not. No. He does NOT need to add 4 litres.

Audi service wrote this back to me.

Its not unusual for an rs4 to top up 3-4 times between services.

I’m away for a few days but will take a shot of the level and buy some oil!

Cheers

Just about to book mine in for it’s first service, just an oil change at 9K miles. Did anyone get a litre of oil with the car? Had one on all previous cars but not this one.

Nor me - I do have a couple of those proper Audi Velcro attached zipped bags that used to contain a 1 Litre container of oil on the bench in the garage to this day though.

Thanks guys. I just thought it might have been my dealer as all I got was delays on delivery... no cargo net, umbrella or air freshener. It's the same with Mini on the first JCW my children got t-shirts, teddy bears and my wife flowers...all we got last time was a very dirty brand new car that they had to take back for the day to sort out. I was starting to become paranoid or was it that Barons had taken over both dealerships...

Not looking forward to the oil change and the feeling of being ripped off!

LiquiMoly TOP TEC 4200 5W30 is great oil for diesel engines and 2.0TFSI, but not for RS4/RS5. If You look at Liqui Moly web there is no oil suitable for RS4/RS5 B9.
You will always have oil loss with 5W-30 oils.

I use Mobil 1 FS 0W-40, which is recommended for these engines (see mobiloil.com).
